I'm thinking of making my two girls a 2x4 cage with a 2x2 loft. I am thinking of making the loft offset. There will be 3 grids under the loft, supporting it on the outside. Would the loft still need support?

And if yes, does anyone have any suggestions on how to support the loft?

Thanks in advance!

Lengths of 2x2 lumber (actually 1.5 x 1.5) make very good support rails.

You don't need any more than the three grids. It's totally fine. You can also do the offset even more dramatically and it's totally strong and works. You can just use two grids and cable-tie them at a 45 degree angle. Works perfectly and then you don't need the extra table space, because it's suspended in the air.
