Should be a few weeks at most. They grow amazingly fast. MAKE SURE your guinea pig is eating, even if you have to hand-feed.

Yup that's true, guinea pigs shouldn't have prepared food. Try getting baby food from a grocery store instead. I've heard many people who had pigs that wouldn't/couldn't eat were handfed baby food and they recovered :)

Really, if a guinea pig needs hand feeding, you should give it syringed pellet slurry and purreed raw veggies, or a formula specifically made for hand feeding guinea pigs like Oxbow's Critical Care.

Baby foods usually have sugar, salt and other additives in, and don't usually have enough fibre for guinea pigs either. This is very important to keep their digestive tract in good working order, especially when they're not eating a normal amount. It's best to stick to what's good for them, and to what they usually eat - especially when they're ill.

This page has lots of information on what to feed them, if they need handfeeding. https://www.guinealynx.info/emergencymedicalguide.html#handfeeding
