Hello, just wanted to ask for some advice from all my fellow cavy lovers.
A few months ago I adopted a male piggy and we LOVE LOVE LOVE him!!! Best pet I have ever had and so great with my kids. I read that guinea pigs live happier lives in pairs so we adopted a second male guinea pig a month later. As it turns put, Patrick is really Patricia and what I feared was a swollen belly quickly turned into a pregnancy. It has been 10 weeks as of a week ago (so 11 weeks today) that I introduced them. I was expecting her to give birth last week but nothing yet. She is now wider than she is longer and she is not moving much. She has made a spot for herself between the water, hay and pellets and doesn’t want to move unless I encourage her to move to the other side of the cage with some veggies. She even sits in her urine so I am changing her bedding in that area daily. She seems to be eating and drinking a lot so I am not too concerned about that and I have doubled her Vitamin C intake and have added alfalfa hay to her diet as well. I can see the babies moving so I know they are alive. I am just so scared that she is overdue now and that she might not be able to deliver the babies, maybe they are too big. She was only a month old when I adopted her so she isn’t old (I read about the hips fusing in older piggies). Normally I take my animals to the vet but I don’t have an affordable exotic pet vet in my area and I don’t want to move her unnecessarily because she seems very tired. Any advice, am I just jumping the gun and rushing her along cause I am excited to be a guinea grandma J All words of wisdom are appreciated. I know many of you have gone through guinea pregnancies and as it was completely not my intention to breed her, I am trying to educate myself as best as possible. I’m just praying for the best outcome here. Thank you!
