Its a boy, and I'd like to rename him. He's a himalayan, and I simply adore British names. I am considering the name Pippa, not because of Pippa which I didn't even realize the name until I heard it on the news. I'm open to othr suggestions. I just want a name that fits.

When I think of British, I think of Winston Churchill, King Henry VIII, the Beatles, Monty Python, Killer Rabbit, Mr. Bean, Mick Jagger, Sherlock Holmes, Gandalf, James Bond, Lancelot, Wallace and Gromit.

So, did you find a rescue which had a himi after all, or did you buy him?

I was being goofy with those names. I didn't even realize that there were "British" names. So, what rescue did you find him at?

There are all types of names from many different origins. For ex. my name is from Africa, and my son's name is Biblical. I got him from Have a Heart.

With a few exceptions, British names are the same as American names. There are some that are more common in Britain and others that are more common in America but for the most part, they are the same.

Where you run into differences between one country's names and other countries' names is in the language spoken. English is the predominant language in both countries so names remain mostly the same.

The only 2 British names I could think of are Basil and Montgomery. I'm the same way with Irish names. I've always given my dogs and rat names associated with Ireland. I not sure why I didn't choose Irish names for my guinea pigs.

Those are both cute names. Do you like old movies? Their names bring to mind Basil Rathbone and Montgomery Clift.....

I love the name Liam. I thought it was a Gaelic name.

I like Basil, too. And what's kind of cool about it is that it is a name and also an herb.

Names have an origin and in America the names that are used that might be popular or well known aren't "American" they all have a root. So to not to go off track talking about names Basil is cute. I've been considering Bailey.

I've also been considering these (not necessarily english but cute)

Cadbury
Beans
Jelly Belly
Mugatu
Hamlet

My first rescue guinea pig was a Himalayan female we named Jelly Bean because she had ruby red eyes. We adopted her the day before Easter in 2003 so Jelly Bean seemed really appropriate. Jelly Belly seems like it would also suit a red eyed Himalayan.

Right, and most of those "American" names have origin in England as that's where the original colonists were from. Thus, my first thought that most names in America are the same as names in England.

I decided to name him Hamlet. It's funny because I named him before seeing the last two post.

ooh, Hamlet is sweet for a piggie. It sounds cute by contrast--the original Hamlet was a rather gloomy indecisive Danish prince. Yours will, I think, be a happy little prince, and you can call him Hammie for short. Isn't there a national comic strip with a baby called Hammie in it?

Hamlet is an adorable name! I think now we need some pictures of the newly-named guy!

Are you thinking of Hammie from Baby Blues?

Although he isn't a baby so much anymore! ;)
