Size Convincing Parents for Bigger Cage

[h=5]Hi. I am a guinea pig owner with a one year old female. I have recently been gathering more information on guinea pigs and the proper environment for them and the proper food, etc. (It has become my hobby). Anyhow, I have a question. I have a good sized store bought cage, which is of course not big enough but I am having trouble convincing my parents that I need a bigger cage, which I am asking for Christmas this year. I am looking at a small 2by3 CnC grid cage (and maybe the size up) and some accessories for it. What are some tips to help convince my parents that store bought cages are never big enough and that I need this bigger one, which would take up more room but will be worth it? That my piggie will be happier in a bigger cage. Any Suggestions?[/h]

Show them this website! Show them the testimonials section :) Also, consider making them a powerpoint and a short essay. I'd say make them a powerpoint with a handout and like a little questionnaire for it. If you show them that you've done a lot of research into this, I don't see why they'd be against getting it for you as an XMas present especially.

Thank you. I will definitely do this. It is such a great idea.

I have made some powerpoints, one for each topic and plan on showing them the websites I used. I plan to show them this Saturday when I am back home. Will let you know how it goes.

Show them videos on youtube of active pigs in appropriately sized cages, and you could also go on a site for Walmart or homedepot and show them that you can buy the materials for a C&C cage for 80$ honestly.

HomeDepot sells the Rubbermaid cube shelves for a REALLY good price, and coroplast "plastolike" for 23$ for an 8ft by 4ft sheet. Turn it into something you can do as a family, building a better life for your guinea pig.

I have been looking at suppliers and such. Found grids at walmart and coroplast for like $15 a sheet from a website, so for the whole cage with leftovers I can use to build more on, will cost me a total of $59 (without tax).

Yea show them this website and tell them that your piggie will be much happier in a bigger cage. A cage where he/she can run around and get exercise.

If your dad is handy, ask him to help you build it. It might be a fun project you can do together.

Yeah. My dad could definitely help. Thanks for the idea.

What is the website for coroplast????

Kmart has grids for $18.99-$21.99 and they're almost always on sale for $18.99. Coroplast through Sabic Polymershapes is only $10.00 (for white only, color is $11.00-$13.00) So $32.00 max plus tax and you can have as big of a cage as you want :)

Looks like there is one Sabic in Iowa. (broken link removed)

we share the same hobby!
i think the above post have good ideas! You should show them this website! https://www.guineapigcages.com/
It has information about the recommened cage sizes and why pet shop cages are bad.

Good luck

The Sabic near us raised their prices. It was $12 for white when I bought a couple of sheets last month. I don't know what color sheets are selling for now.

Oh boo. But still, cheaper than Home Depot..and guaranteed to be in stock. None of my HD stores carry coroplast so Sabic is my only option.

Correct grids from Kmart. On sale for $19.99. One box will make a 2x4 WITH a lid OR a 2x5 WITHOUT a lid. https://www.kmart.com/stor-floor-st...W435219990001P?prdNo=1&blockNo=1&blockType=G1

Thanks for sharing this. That is about the same price I was looking at for a 4 cube one at walmart bur that is six cubes. Awesome.

Also, I was planning on making a 2x4 grid with lid and stand. I will have plenty leftover for making other things. Awesome.... I was hoping to eventually pit in a loft so that is just perfect.

Thanks so much for sharing.
