Hello all,
I just joined yesterday. I tried to post an introduction last night, but it apparently never posted.
I'm the proud mom of 2 sweet dogs (my girls) and 2 adorable guinea pigs (my boys). Last April, while on spring break, my daughter bought a small male guinea pig that she wanted to take back to college with her for this year. Long story short, no apartment this year, dorm room, boy needs a friend, bigger cage, promises to take care of them....2 pigs and 2 cages later, Mom has custody and not giving them up.

Anyway, I have 2 boys, and 2x4 c&c cage with a 1x1 small loft, soon to be expanding to a 2x5 with hopefully a 2x2 upstairs.
This is Nikka the Dark Lord. His motivation is shelter. He likes to sit back and watch. He's not very outgoing, but when he's being held, he is the sweetest thing. He's extremely patient during grooming. He recently sat perfectly still while I brushed and cut his hair, and there was a lot of hair to be trimmed. He loves apples and bananas, probably because he rarely gets them.

This is Jasper, his motivation is obviously food. He sleeps in the hay bin. He's very nosy and curious. He's always up on the latest activities going on in the living room. He's the first to greet me when I approach the cage. And last night, in the middle of eating his salad, he stopped to come closer to me, sniffing the air and wheeked for my pizza. He can't sit still long enough for lap time.

This is their cage, 5 minutes after changed the fleece. The hay area is just out of view. They have a small loft in the corner. Usually one is upstairs and one is downstairs napping.

Welcome! Your piggies are cuties. I have found, in my short time of being a cavy slave, that once you have them, you can't give them up and then you want to add more! lol I look forward to seeing more of your boys!

Welcome. Cute piggies. I also like your cage set up. It looks like they have a good chunk of space to run around. It will be great when you expand.

Your piggies are gorgeous and I like your cage setup! It will be cool to see the bigger cage once it's done. I bet your guys will love having extra room! Interesting that your daughter was the one who first got a piggie and you've taken over. Piggies are like potato chips: no one can keep just one!!!

I'm a probie, too, just joined about 3 days ago. This place is great for getting info about all sorts of piggie subjects. Welcome!

Yes Jasper is unusual. He has two black feet and two white feet, one each, front and back on opposite sides, like a checkerboard. From his nose, down his belly, he's exactly half black and white, with whorls on his belly, and long hair over his butt. We figure he must be a Heinz 57 of guinea pigs.

And yes, I would love more, especially some of the pigs on here. But I live in a small apartment, with two dogs so it will be awhile before I get another.

I have such difficulty trying just to get my piggies to sit still while trying to cut their nails. Good work on managing a whole hair cut!

Hi, you sound just like me, I just joined and posted that I thought I was reading about myself reading your post! Same deal here, daughter at college, guinea pig lasted two weeks before landlord found out. Now I am addicted to them and they are my babies.

Welcome to the forum! I also am from Indiana. I'm currently living in West Lafayette but am originally from Brownsburg, IN. I'm hoping to move closer to Indy after I graduate, but so far things aren't looking good job-wise. :p
