I have two males that have never seen each other and live in two spate cages and when I clean their cages I put them in a large plastic bin (no lid) with bedding and hay. Each time they'll both start wheeking loudly when they catch the scent of the other cavie. is this normal? they know nothing of each other, never met, and can't see each other.

It seems normal to me. If they're close enough, they can smell each other.

Is there a reason you why don't want them living together?

They're aggressive toward each other and have pulled fur and drawn blood before.

But you said they'd never seen each other.

How did you introduce them?

apologies, I wrote this post very, very early in the morning with very little sleep.

they were introduced in a large playpen in the living room (somewhere they'd never been) and long story short, they had to be separated.
