(broken link removed) Since we don't have an exotic vet here I googled " Fungus for guinea pigs" and found this.

Betadine - Betadine has been proven very effective in the treatment of fungal conditions in guinea pigs. The active ingredient ' Iodine ' in Betadine doubles as a fungal treatment. Betadine is safe and effective and will not irritate the skin.
I have betadine in my house, should I start the treatment??

You could try putting the Betadine on with something like a q-tip. Or you should be able to get an over-the-counter antifungal such as Monistat or Nystatin -- those will also work if it's a fungus.

Guinea Lynx :: Fungus This picture skin condition is the same as my pig. So I'm positive that it's a fungal infection.

Should I separate my guinea pigs until it is treated?

Should I treat him with betadine? Should I use a cotton swab to apply the betadine? Will the betadine stain his fur? Should I isolate Peanut from my other pig???

Come on Guys I don't want to wait any longer !!

Your other pig has been exposed.. So personally I wouldn't separate them.. I'm not a vet.. You can try it and see.. :)

No I would not separate them.

Is the area raised, as in a bump?

I would use an over the counter fungal cream. But if you have betadine on hand right now, you could use it. I would use a cotton swab, and be extremely careful.

@foggycreekcavy It is not a bump, I will apply betadine on the infection right now

Thank you all for your help, I will keep u updated. I'm going to use betadine twice a day until the infection is treated, I will also keep an eye on the other pig "Walnut"

Yes, please do keep us updated. I always get sad when I see a piggie problem and like to hear about some kind of resolution for the problem as well.

Peanut's Medical File/Thread

Peanut, my 5 months old boar is in his second day of treatment for what I believe is a fungal infection. I will keep track of his condition each and every day and will post pictures of his progress. Feel free to comment and give tips !

Oh dear. It is so close to his eye. I would be so worried putting anything on it at all.

I agree with you, I would stop it and take Peanut to a Cavy Savvy vet.
We don't have a Cavy Savy Vet nor any exotic vets.

I found a cream at my house called " Quadriderm" : I googled around and found

Quadriderm c
Quadriderm-Cream.jpg
ream is designed to be used topically in dermatoses threatened, complicated or caused by some kinds of dde fungal or bacterial infection, which include candidiasis
. The cream is intended for thetreatment and prevention of infections that is caused by fungi or bacteria in an assortment of eczema as well as other inflammatory and allergic dermatoses. Quadriderm cream has been utilized successfully as a treatment for chronic dermatoses in the extremities, erythrasma, the external ear otitis, acne inguinal, herpes zoster, balanoposthitis, eczema, dermatitis, contact dermatitis, dyshidrosis, paronychia anal pruritus, intertrigo, dermatitis microbial follicular dermatitis, seborrheic, eczema, pustular acne, parakeratosis, neurodermatitis, impetigo of the scalp, seborrheic dermatitis, angular stomatitis, photosensitivity dermatitis, occipital area, groin ringworm and lichenified infections, tinea corporis, tinea pedis and tinea cruris.

Do you think I should give it a try? I stopped using betadine after your suggestions. Btw the there is an improvement. I will upload some pics in a couple of minutes.

I think it would be okay, but not until the skin has healed. You shouldn't apply it to an open wound, I believe. What do the directions say?
