Hello,
I have a young boar (approx 4-5 months) who has been with us for nearly 2 months. He is paired with my 3 year old boar and they get along well. The past 3 weeks he has been squinting his right eye; he did not have this when I first brought him home. I recently noticed he has some slight crust that builds up in the corner of his eye (pictured), which does not occur in his normal left eye. He can open his right eye wide at times, but I notice it is slightly receded compared to his left eye.

I took him to the exotic vet over a week ago, who did a full exam and stained his eye. She did not see any obvious abrasions and prescribed an oral antibiotic (sulfadiazine-trimethoprim, twice daily for 7 days) for a suspected eye infection. She also confirmed he did not have a URI.

I have since completed the treatment but he is still squinting his eye. I called the vet to ask what she would recommend doing next - her only suggestions are doing an x-ray to rule out a dental problem (though she examined his molars during the visit and did not see any abnormalities), or referring him to a specialist.

Please let me know if you have experienced anything similar and what it could possibly be. Unfortunately I do not have many exotic vets nearby, so it is difficult to have him seen for a second opinion. I have been reading this forum and am wondering if this could be the result of a blocked tear duct?

Thank you!
