New friend for Ivan

Hi everybody. After asking about buddies a couple of weeks ago, we adopted a 1 year old boar from a local shelter(Odie is his name). Wanted to make sure I am doing everything correctly, had a couple of questions. He is in his quarantine cage(2X2 1/3), no contact with Ivan for 3 weeks correct? Clothing changed between pickups, the works. Second question is about Odie. He has eaten some of the hay, but not alot. I don't know whether he was getting any at the shelter or not, should this be a concern? Another question, he is a short hair red with a little white. I have done some reading on here about pink eyes, which he has. The pink or red is just one of their eye pigments correct? Any advice welcomed, thanks.

Congrats! From everything I've read, 3 weeks is the best idea for a quarantine - especially from a shelter where there are probably a lot of unknowns about his background. It took my pig a little time to settle in enough to be comfortable eating very much. Now he's a hay piggie. So - I'm not good on advice for the rest of this - anyone else?

Pink eyed pigs are normal. He may have to get used to eating hay - often pigs haven't had much when they come in from the shelter. I'd weigh him daily for a while to ensure he's gaining weight. And a vet checkup is always a good idea.

Yes, 3 weeks strict quarantine. And I always treat for mites during this time.

Ivan & Odie, what great names! I have one piggy with red eyes who looks exactly like my avatar. Two of my rescue piggies had to get used to hay. Now they want giant mounds of it to munch, tunnel through & lounge in. When one piggy gets new hay, everybody wants some too even though it's the same hay that's already there. Check here if they don't get along at first. I hope they love each other.
