Seems to work well. The only problem I had was attaching the water bottle. I ended up putting my piggie playpen around the pool to attach the water bottle to it. Are they big enough for 2 pigs? I've heard that they are. Here's some photos:

I have no clue if they're big enough or not, one of the more experienced members would have to comment on that. But just look at that face! What a cutie!

I'm pretty sure it is, but I wanted to ask to be sure. I know, isn't he just the cutest thing? :cheerful:

The only way to know if it is big enough or not is to get the diameter of the pool and calculate area!

Same rules still apply! Remember you will want the diameter (how far across) from the base, not the lip as that is the usable area.

Now the pic is comming through, it looks pretty good! The usable area will confirm that though!

I'm not exactly sure what you mean, as I'm not good with math. But I measured it from one side to the other, and it's 3 feet.

cavy_chick, Did you measure the bottom or did you measure across the top of the pool. That is going to make a difference. Get back with us on that so we can help you know for sure about the sq. ft. We need the measurement across the bottom.

Awesome idea. Wish I'd thought of it before I threw one of those away.

That is across the bottom. It's about 2'11"

Jeff and I are saying it is pi r squared. So we calculate it at 7.065 sq. ft.

Note: we went from your 2'11" to 3'.

Ok, the formula for figuring out the area, is pi x radius squared.

The Radius is 1/2 of the diameter. The Diameter is how far it is across, so your pool is 3 feet across.

So, we are going to use 1.5 feet, x 1.5 feet x pi (3.14)
1.5 x1.5 x 3.14 = 7.065.

So, your pool is 7 square feet. Almost the same as a 2x3 Being round, I think it is ok, because they can really run around and use all the space, corners in a 2x3 are somewhat wasted usually.

I would not put more then 2 docile sows in it though! It really is not good for boars. (Because boars need more room, and you should never have on on his own!)

At least it is very easy, and probably rather cost effective! Not to mention, easy to construct!

I love when people get creative. I'd have to agree that I wouldn't put any more than 2 pigs in your pool though, and probably sows as C&K suggested.

I need to go buy a kiddie pool actually. I get a ton of sunlight in my animal room, and I'm thinking of growing a pool full of grass. I have an old box of hay that I let stay out in the sun too long and it went brown on me. No good for piggy hay, but it would work instead of straw to go over the grass seed.

C&K What a gal!! ...LOL I am cracking up here. Were you working on it at the same time I was? Great minds eh?

pi r squared = So we calculate it at 7.065 sq. ft.

pi x radius squared. = So, we are going to use 1.5 feet, x 1.5 feet x pi (3.14)
1.5 x1.5 x 3.14 = 7.065.

A lady with a local gp rescue I saw uses kiddie pools. She attaches some netting to the top with clothespins to keep the rowdy ones from escaping.

I'm not sure about the pool thingy but to each its own. I would be afraid they'd figure out a way to jump out. Mine would jump off of the hidey house and figure a way out. Especially Coco, my more adventurous one.

C&K and Judy-She said the inside dimetions were 2ft 11inches there fore the radius wouldn't be 1.5 feet.

Pi x radius squared
3.14 x 1.46 squared
3.14 x 2.13
about 6.69ft

Recomended size is 7.5ft. I wouldn't use if for two. They do sell bigger ones which are around 12ft (area) at Walmart.

That size kiddie pool is ok to use as a temp cage but not really a good size for a permanent cage. I used one once as a temp cage when I had a horrid ant problem last year. I had 3 girls in mine for about a week when I was trying to rid my coroplast of ants. It was crowded. I would have to say to go with a larger sized pool. The minimum recommendations for even 1 pig is 7.5 sq. ft.
