Alot of the time, piggies will give birth at night (or when there aren't any people), because naturally they would rather have privacy from predators. If she is going into labour, it'll be pretty obvious. In most cases, they'll sit/lie down on their stomach, & you'll see a hicupping motion (which is a contraction). When the baby comes out, there will be a sac thingo covering the baby, which the mother should pierce and eat. If she doesn't pierce it soon enough, the baby could asphixiate, and you will have to do it manually. Other things to look out for is lots of blood coming out, the mother in extreme pain & babies not coming out. There is a good page for this at guinea lynx:

Good luck with your guinea pig!:)

Yeah I've already read up on that. But thanks for the info about the laying on stomach and other information!

When the mom is actually giving birth, she will reach down between her legs as if to eat one of her cecal poops. Instead, she grabs the baby and pulls it out -often grabbing the baby's front teeth with her teeth. We've seen quite a few pups born in the daytime. The whole thing is normally very quick. You can be checking on them every 20 minutes and still miss the entire birth. I've had a piggy go into labor in the cage next to my desk while I'm working there and not even know it. Most of the time, they can do everything themselves.

Okay, new question. Usually I can feel the babies kicking at least once a day. I haven't felt anything today. Should I be worried?

She hunched down a few times like she was gonna deliver another one but nothing ever came of it. May be just the one. Been almost an hour no sign of her having any more contractions. No sign of distress.

Had to keep moving her cause she keeps stepping on him/her. Little overzealous with the cleaning. But good now.

Make sure you check what gender the baby is & remember to seperate at 3-4 weeks if it is a male! Hope they're both doing well. :D

Okay, so mommy keeps stepping on baby. And is super duper active like I've never seen her. He's looking to nurse and she just steps over top of him/her.

Yes I'll remember.

IDK what it is yet. I think its a boy. It has a kind of masculine face. I could be wrong!
