Any hayrack is fine as long as there is no way for them to get hurt or trapped using it. If you check out most of the hayracks in the gallery, they are made from inexpensive things. If you want to go out and buy one, the one you picked would be fine.

Seems like the hay might have a hard time moving down the gravity feeder. The stuff is so bulky.

Im thinking that someone had posted that thier Guinea pigs toenail got caught in that rack and was ripped off. Im not sure if thats the same one but looks like it. The best thing for a hayrack is a grid bent in half. My pigs like to sit it and it holds a lot of hay.

Good idea with that! Thanks, Im going to try to find something smaller to do that then attatch it to my cage. Do you think a kleenex box would work with me attaching it on the outside like you?

A kleenex box should work just be careful you don't tear it when you fill it.

I have used those plastic basins like shown in the picture but have also used those clear storage bins as well. They hold up better then cardboard would.

If you can find a larger cardboard box to use it would be better then a kleenex box as it will hold much more hay.

Why does that bug you? I'd be cleaning my cage every 3 minutes if I got bothered with hay falling into the bedding. I'd say I have 1/3 hay with 2/3 bedding most of the time. They eat it from the hay loft and off the ground. I actually use a very wide net planter for my hay rack, so the hay is never in it for long.

Put a litter pan under the hay rack. It will not only catch excess hay that the GPs pull out but they like to pee where their hay is and it will keep your cage cleaner longer. Just clean out the litter pan every day or two.

Looks like you removed the roof/lid from your cage after your dog bounced off of it last night?
