Hi Everyone
I really am hoping someone can help me out.
My GP (Licorice) just had abscess removal surgery 2 weeks ago. I took him for a re-check a week ago and the vet said everything looked great. The incision was closed with stitches that dissolve on their own. We're giving him baytril 2x a day. Tonight we went to give him his second dose and there was a huge mass of what looked like cottage cheese.
We called an emergency vet because I am disabled and have no way of getting to a vet at midnight. Anyway she told my husband and I to try and remove all of the cottage cheese looking gunk and keep warm compress on it every two hours until we can get to a vet. All of the gunk has come out and now its an open wound. I can't get him to a vet until Monday so I'm scared he'll get worse by then.
Anyone have any suggestions? I don't know what to do. The ER vet is hours away and costs $100 just for the visit. I just spent $500 on surgery I don't have any other choice but to wait until Monday. I don't like the idea of the wound being open but will it be safe to wait until Monday morning? (It's just after midnight Sunday now)
