Infection Please help educate me about Pyometra

Can someone explain to me what Pyometra is, how it is diagnosed, how to treat or cure it? Our new vet called and is worried this could be what is wrong with our two piggies. I could not find a lot about it..

Thank you. Any other info would be appreciated. I just want to educate myself on this, because it was mentioned to us to be aware that this could be one of the possiblities with my pigs if they should bleed again that he would look for and I wanted to educate myself on the topic...
