Apologies if this topic already exists--I did several searches and found only threads about baby guinea pigs!
I'm due to have a human baby in about a month, and I'm wondering just generally if there is anything I should know about having the baby around my two guinea pigs. I don't plan for them to get close enough to touch until the baby is old enough for us to practice typical hygiene, but does anyone know of any health risks (e.g. potential breathing issues) for a newborn just being around them?
Doctors don't seem to know much about rodents, unfortunately. I was generally advised not to clean the cage while pregnant just in case, but they don't tell you much else beyond "wash your hands." If you have experience with babies and pigs, what precautions did you take?
