We lost a piggie a couple of months ago, and our remaining girl has seemed lonely.
We just introduced a new rescue pig. The new pig is adorable! Very friendly with people, though we don't know her prior experience with cagemates or not.
Introduction was yesterday. They are doing ok, but our original pig seems really anxious and not happy yet. There is a lot of squealing, chattering, chasing. No violence at all. I can't remember how long it takes til they are comfortable after an introduction.
They look like they are sorting out who is dominant, and they seem evenly matched so it's not clear who the boss will be.
Anyone have recent insights?

Did you leave them together after you introduced them? If so, and there's no fighting, then things should settle down shortly.

Just make sure there are enough hideys that they've got a place to escape. And put fleece forests or drapes in the cage so there's no clear line of sight all the way down it. "Out of sight, out of mind" is what you hope for during introductions.

I lost Simon on Oct 9th, and Leo almost immediately shut down. He grieves very hard, and we learned that a few years ago when Scooter also passed suddenly. Jack came into our lives suddenly and we introduced him to Leo a few days after Simon's passing.

We've been very lucky with our introductions, and this was no exception. We started at noon and by 6pm they were in their permanent cage together. That was two months ago. Leo and Jack get along well, but nowhere near the bond that Leo had with Simon or Scooter for that matter. Leo has just gotten to be a crotchety old man.

It sounds like yours are taking a little longer than normal to settle down and sometimes it takes plenty of time. As long as there's no bloodshed, they'll sort out whatever relationship they're going to have in due course. Sometimes they bond easily, quickly and deeply. Other times they simply tolerate each other and there's no way to predict what you're going to get.

OK, for anyone reading this in the future (including myself LOL):
It took about 36 hours.
They are doing great now.
