Cage Day Cage

I found a cage that has a wire bottom but the wire space is one inch would that be too big? And would it hurt my guinea pigs to be in this cage just for the day and go to their normal cage at night? I have a cat and three dogs so i can't put my playpen downstairs and I can't expand my Critter Nation Cage because the cat can open the door to the room and i can't find a cage that would be right for my babies. Please help with the day cage

Unless your pigs are pups, the spacing should be ok. But the wire bottom is a no-go.

Why do you need a different cage for day and night?

Because the night cage is upstairs in my room so I want them to be downstairs with me during the day because i only go in the room to sleep.

So it would even be bad for just during the day?

You can't put them on a wire cage floor, ever. They're prone to getting bumblefoot, which is a painful foot condition aggravated by walking on hard, uneven surfaces.

Why don't you move the larger cage downstairs?

Because my mom thinks its too smelly so she won't let me.

Just leave them upstairs, and go see them when you want to.

Then you need a better cage-cleaning routine. It's very possible to have an odor-free guinea pig cage.

She just has a really sensitive nose it really isn't smelly. I use cage cleaner and special bedding and I clean it once a week she also just doesn't like clutter I can barely have anything of my own downstairs.

Maybe you could cut a piece of coroplast to fit the bottom of the cage.

Maybe, but would the waste just move around a bunch? Could I put a woven grass mat over part of the wire mesh cage so part of it is covered?

You need regular bedding in the bottom of any cage you put a guinea in, whether it's fleece and absorbent layer/wood pellets/Care Fresh/whatever.
