What "toy" can your piggy cannot live without? (How can I spruce up this cage?)

The girls are currently in:

And a picture with Sila in it.. She's my newbie baby. <3 <3

(The ramp isn't covered in pee; just drying from being washed) ^_^

Wasn't entirely sure where to post this so I am starting here. What "toys" can your guinea pigs not live without? Is the cage Stratos and Sila in too "bare"?

I am crafty and have access to a sewing machine, if need be. I would rather make something than spend $20+ on toys -- so any cost efficient "wouldn't have thought to use this.." ideas are highly appreciated. (Also, things that aren't too difficult to clean!)

So far they have the Midwest cage (I have grids for a 5x2, but no coroplast, yet.) It's roughly 7/7.5sq feet (I believe). Other than what you see, I really have no idea what to do to make the cage more exciting? (Yes, I've looked through the photo albums, LOL) but I would rather hear some "must haves" and go from there.

Thank you :D

Fleece forest -very cheap and easy to make... just need a grid and some fleece, fleece tunnel-requires sewing but still easy to make, comfy fleece bed, wicker and straw balls.

I could do a fleece forest. I have access to both fleece and a grid. I need to look for a tutorial. I had one on there before, however the way I made it made it impossible to clean.

A pigloo, Muffin never likes being without her pigloo! little tunnel/tubes that are big enough for guinea pig are very fun, and so are little balls she can push around. I've added egg cartons before, that was actually very fun for her! Those are just a couple of my favorites :)

What did she do with an egg carton? Heh :) I do have some PVC pipe. I don't know if it's just a boy thing but Strummy would pee and sit in it so I took it out.. (Or is that totally typical of guinea pigs in general?)

My boar often "marks" items with his scent (pees on things). My girl Rosie loves her towel tent. I just clip a square piece of fleece to the corner of the cage and the other half hangs in.

She did a bit of chewing and moved it all around the cage!

Maybe it was a marking thing, then. Do you have a picture of your towel tent?

Pigloo and sleep sack are both equally critical to her. Next is her willow square basket that I stuff the sorted timothy first cut hay and stems in.

for the fleece forest,

you need to figure out how high you want your grid to be from the floor. Then take the fleece and fold it over a little shorter than that height so that from the fold down is how high you want it. If you make it shorter it stays clean for longer. You can also give it a haircut later on if it ends up being too long. I made a free standing fleece forest my husband calls the "carwash" (photo below). Cut the folded fleece the length of the grid. If you don't want to make ties then cut it to the same size as the grid. Lay it flat on the table and take the grid and press it into the fleece to make indention lines or slide the grid up an inch and then use the lines on the grid to space out your cuts. Make 9 cuts in the fleece all the way up to about 1/2-3/4" to the fold. Don't cut it all the way thru, you need the fold to drape it over the grid. You can either drape it over one bar or over one box. I did mine over one box. Make as many of them as you want. If you drape it over one box you will have two rows of fleece so 3 of them will make 6 rows on the grid.

My Oreo cant live without a hidey, balls to throw and chew, and his tunnel :)

Even when he gets scared and runs to his hidey he runs through the tunnel lol

Super easy to make! Just buy a 1/2 yard or so of fleece )

Ooh! That's so cool. I'm still a new cavy owner so I love all of these ideas for my cage.
