Simple Question

I don't wish the guinea pig was dead, I do wish the original poster didn't support the breeding of animals. You said you don't support pet stores do you wish all those pigs were dead?

I DO NOT support the breeding of animals, but I didn't think it was fair to let an innocent life die. If that's a crime, then throw me in jail. I'm not a heartless person who will let an animal who has the chance for a better life just die. I thought that we were supposed to be humane to animals, the HUMANE thing to do was to save his life. Sorry for supporting one of the things this site trys to get. Humane treatment for animals.

And if everyone would stop bickering, PLEASE! What's done is done and I'm not going to take him back and say "I'm against pet stores, so you can have him back and let him die." Mods, I'm asking for you to please close this discussion, I should have just gone with my instincts. I appologize for wasting time.

Alot of people dont decide to have kids. It just happens.

Ha ha ha ha ha! I'm sorry, but I find this *incredibly* funny! Getting pregnant doesn't "just happen." People make the conscious decision to engage in the activity that creates babies. They make the conscious decision to use or not use birth control. People are in control of their reproductive systems, unlike animals sold in pet stores.

It is a simple concept to understand. If there is a pet store that sells animals of any kind then you should not be making any purchases in that store. No supplies, no animals.
Amen to this statement.

Yes, pigs dying or people telling stories that they will be killed if no one buys them tugs at people's heartstrings, but it happens probably every single day somewhere. Does that mean we all have to run to our nearest petstore and buy these animals? No!!! I'm sorry but I would have left the pig there because I think they just used the killing/euthanizing story to get you to buy it whether on sale/clearance or full price. I would have made them give me the pig for absolutely free or I wouldn't have taken it. Maybe I sound mean and heartless but this is my stance. I used to support the petstore with my purchases of food and some other supplies but now I have found alternate sources for all my pigs needs and no longer have to put my money into the local petstore that breeds/buys from breeders and sells small animals.

Also there is no proof that this store won't decide in a week, a month, 6 months or whenever to sell pigs again. I think it was just a story made up by them to get you to "buy" this sick pig so they wouldn't have to deal with it anymore.

I understand you are happy the pig is not dead but the pig is not dead because someone had to purchase him. And by purchasing him she is saving one life but supporting breeding animals in turn putting way more at risk.

I agree that animals can't control reproduction cycles, but humans can't do it 100% effectively either. You can't rely rely on menstrual cycle pregnancy prevention, prophylactics do break or come defective, and birth control pills, apart from being horribly expensive (the ones I use cost above 100 dollars per pack in an online site), do lose their effectiveness if not used correctly.

Humans absolutely can effectively control their reproduction 100% of the time - they can *choose* not to have sex. Is that reasonable? Of course not. But in *choosing* to have sex, people are making the decision to deal with any complications, including pregnacy.

This is not question, hun... there's no question mark..

This was not the question I was referring to, this one is (sorry I should have been more specific)

You said you don't support pet stores do you wish all those pigs were dead?

This question does have a question mark, hun
I was simply using your own logic when you said(in the quote below) it seems I was the pig was dead,

I'm glad that guinea pig basically wasn't murderd. That's all. Do you wish it were or something?? That's what it seems.

Thanks Claudie.

They make the conscious decision to use or not use birth control.

I'm glad you find it so funny.. but maybe because you don't know all the facts. Yes, people take birth control.. people get operations done even. But sometimes babies STILL are born. Trust me. I know alot of people who this has happend to. We are not completely in control of our reproductive systems. That conversation pretty much ended a long time ago though.

Abstinence is another thing entirely. However, I've been raped 2 times that I know of because of the Ambien. I'd sleep walk and could not remember ANYTHING that happened while I was asleep. My first time was a rape. Imagine that. If I hadn't been drinking birth control for acne and horribly strong menstrual pains then I could've been in big trouble. And right now I'm on the wait for one month until I can get an HIV test because apparently I have to wait 2-3 months until (if I have the Virus) the antibodies will show up in the blood test.

I'm sorry to hear that claudie. I know it's really hard. Living in really bad places in Las vegas had my mom raped and beat a few times. Saddest thing I ever saw after it had happend. It's such a scary thing and I agree. You don't always have control of what happens to you. I think being a rape victim and finding out you were pregnant because of that would be one of the most difficult things ever.

I'm sorry for your troubles. I hope everything turns out ok.

The origional point was most pregencies are a choice.

I am sorry to hear that Claudie. There are definitely situations in life that you can not control. The point though is that we can control the breeding problem with guinea pigs and other animals. We can also choose not to purchase animals from breeders and pet stores and if we all chose to do that they would no longer make money and there would no longer be animals in pet stores.

I'm so sorry to hear that Claudie. I hope your test is negative and that you can heal from this terrible situation soon. :(

No. Not buying from a pet store. I wouldn't buy an animal from a pet store ever again in my life. But if that were a childs life she saved everyone here would think she were amazing and might even be on the news.

I seem to be living in a different reality than you, I haven't noticed them euthanizing children to make room for more anytime lately. Or for that matter, locking adult women in cages and forcing them to breed children to sell to child stores.

I agree with this wholeheartedly. People are so quick to jump on this bandwagon. And yet everybody has only sympathy for the pig in the pet store. What about the pig being bred to make that pig? What about the pig in the shelter that's going to be euthanized, because the local rescue doesn't have room for pigs because nobody is adopting? Because realistically, we can't save pigs from shelters if people don't adopt and give us the room to do so.

Why save the pig in the pet store that supports more breeding at the expense of saving a pig that will not support more breeding, and will give another pig a chance as well?

On the topic of pet stores, I go to Petsmart when i need hay. There the only ones that carry it around here. Even the place where i buy Oxbow doesnt have it. But im not supporting the sale of animals Im Supporting the sale of hay. Thats called supply and demand. Im not a vegitarian, so i eat meat, but im not going to stop going to the grocery store just because they sell animals. Or walmart because they sell fish. If you think like that you mine as well stop going anywhere. Stop going to Target, Lowes, Home Depot, Safeway, Ralphs, Fry's, Fred Meyer, etc..., because they sell animals too. Just because they werent alive when you bought them doesnt mean they didnt live in a little barn somewhere till they were slaughtered. Im not going to stop going where i go because i dont look at it from onside or the other, i like to stay on the fench and watch people and just keep doing what im doing.

When you give money to a corporation that sells animals, you're supporting the sale of animals.

I don't shop at Walmart, or pet stores that carry animals. I do shop at Target because they don't sell animals. In fact, I've never seen a Target anywhere on this coast that sells animals. Home Depot doesn't sell animals, nor do Lowe's (I worked for both). The others I can't vouch for.

In the upper right hand corner of my post it lists my location as NC, so no, I'm not talking about Arizona and Nevada. None of the Home Depots in this district carry koi, nor do any of the Lowe's.
