I have two more 2 x 4 single level cages but am looking for more cheap grids to double decker them.

@Swindle06 that looks awesome!! Great cage! Do you have cats? Is that why it has a lid? If so be careful about them jumping on the cage; it will cave in without a support bar going through the middle. You're fleece is really cute too.
No we don't have any cats. These are our only pets. I just wanted to put the lid on it to make sure they stayed in there. Especially with it being on a table. It would be a 4 foot drop to the floor and I definitely don't want that.

Thanks for the kind words everyone. I appreciate it.

Ok I was just making sure. I have some heavy cats and they make my lid bow pretty bad but it has a support bar.

I love seeing all the cages and reading the explanations! Here is our cage journey

Like so many others my guinea pig life started out with one Eddy pig in a pet store cage last spring: :(

While watching YouTube videos with my son I saw some guinea pig C&C cages. I should have known better since my rabbits had always been in cube cages but I could never figure out a good base for guinea pigs. After seeing the YouTube videos my son and I built this 2x2 but it is still too small:

After the summer was over and my son went back to school it became apparent Eddy Pig was lonely so entered Ben and an upgraded C&C and now a good size:

Always wanting the best I joined this site and found out a 2x4 would be better for the guinea pigs. My son and I redid our cage yet again. By this time I was fed up with wood chips all over the house and decided to try fleece.

After sometime we added a third guinea pig (who we no longer have) and expanded the cage up ward. It was about this time as well that my 2-year-old became tall enough to reach inside the C&C and pester the guinea pigs. So this new fully enclosed model came to be:

The cage was changed many times after this trying to get the 3rd guinea pig to get along with the resident two but after it became apparent he just would not we rehomed him and settled on this new 2x5 cage arrangement:

For Christmas my son got another guinea pig Buddy and the cage stayed the same. Buddy has a very easy going personality and didn't need any help getting along with Ben and Eddy.

In February I brought home Bacon. For the first 3 weeks all four got along great in the 2x5 C&C but after awhile they started to fight and I expanded the cage again to what we have now! A mammoth 2x7 with two hay loft areas. Lots of tunnels and hideys in this cage! The guinea pigs love it and we have not had a serous guinea pig fight since. :D I normally have fleece in the cage but we went out of town this past weekend and used wood chips so it was easier on the pet sitter.

Wow I loved seeing the story develop and the final cage looks great - I love the lofts at each end and the massive hay racks! I'm glad they all get on well too :)

Oh my goodness!! What a great Guinea Pig saga that is!! It's sooo cool to see the cage just grow and grow. Your guinea pigs are so spoiled! That's awesome.

mommazilla, I was curious. What are you using as a base under the fleece?

Carliee's cage :)

All of your cages are wonderful!!!

@Inle_Rabbit , That pet store cage is the exact cage that Frank and Charlie were in when I adopted them! Fortunately I already knew about C&C cages so they were only in it for about 4 hours once I got them home and scrambled to get a C&C put together! Funny thing is, most people believe that that cage is MAMMOTH!

@Crystalkate I LOVE your fleece! It's so bright and cheery!

Heh, I think I'll wait until I expand my cage to post pics. The cage right now is boooring. I have new colorful fleece for when I'll expand. :)

I love seeing these cage pictures! It makes me wish I had more room to expand my cage how I would like to so I could better spoil my boys!

@ Sarahpiggies - They do all get along really well now that they have a bit more space. The duel hay racks have helped a ton! Eddy Pig is the boss and he's very passive aggressive so he likes to sit at the top of the ramps to keep the other guinea pigs away.

@Idrew7 - Thank you! They are very spoiled little piggies but they make my kids and myself very happy so they are worth it!

@piggypuppylove - I have no idea where my brain was when I bought that thing. I think I was mostly thinking about Eddy Pig. He was very ill when I got him and I wasn't planning on getting a guinea pig. He just needed someone to care for him or he was going to die. I have had guinea pigs on and off for years and never have I had one live in a pet store cage before. They lived in large wired dog crates or my step father built cages for them. My rabbits have always had cube and wood cages. Luckily Eddy was only in that cage for a month before we found C&Cs and most of that month he was too sick to do much anyway. He was so happy to get that 2x2 C&C he pop corned, ran laps and squeaked for the first time since I brought him home. =D

mommazilla, I was curious. What are you using as a base under the fleece?

I use a shower curtain. I had to literally build my cage on a moment's notice so I had no time to find coroplast. I planned to but I still haven't and the shower curtain does it's job. I'm starting to crave a lift out box though.

I revamped my cage last night, moving the ramp and using pipes as a support for the loft instead of a grid. I like it so much more and so do the piggies.

OMG guysm your cages are GREAT!! And I love all the pictures of your piggies too, they are adorable! I'm planning on making a C&C cage, in Sardinia is hard to find cubes but finally I found them, but I hope by the end of April I have them! You gave me a lot of cute ideas, I'll definitely show you my boy's new cage! lol

That has to be one of the cutest piggie pic I've ever seen!!!
