I feel like I've gone through battle and have made it through a GP owner rite of passage....introducing piggies to one another!

Five hours after I first put them together and they are now in the cage (2x6 grid with a additional 1x2 kitchen on the side). Tonka (brown with white face), Chika (black and white), Winnie (white with brown face), and Paulie (tri-colored). All girls are still a bit on edge. I put tunnels in as hideys so they've got 2 entrances/exits.

Had to throw a towel in once when Chika and Winnie got into it. Thank goodness I was quick as I'd been sitting there with the towel at the ready for an entire hour! :) Now I'm standing guard next to the cage to make sure no new squabbles occur.

I want to thank @CavieGuy for all of his suggestions and recommendations about putting the herd together!!! The info and encouragement that you provided was so helpful!

Whew! Looks like a successful introduction!

Yay! I felt the same way when I introduced my three girls. One of them ended up with a small cut on her face and I almost gave up. Luckily they worked it out :)
Your cage looks wonderful! I love how there are two areas for hay so piggies won't fight over it. I'm thinking of doing something similar.
I'm curious about having four females... I wonder if they will pair up and bond with one other pig? Two of my girls bonded and the third is always left out and bullied a bit. I would love to adopt a fourth.

It was so very stressful! I'd almost pay to hire someone go through the introduction phase for me! I think the stress is worth it, though! @CavieGuy, thanks for the kind compliment on my cage! Coming from you it's quite a compliment because I love your cage set-ups and love watching your videos (need to do them more often!!!! ;-) ).

@allisonj30, my initial assumption is that they may stay in the bonded pair configuration that they were in when living as just pairs (Tonka & Chika / Winnie & Paulie). It'll be interesting to see if that changes. Right now they all seem to be on their own and not hanging out with their original other half. I'm not an expert in GP dynamics but would think that 4 would make it more possible for each to have a bonded "other half".

Funny how dynamics work! When they were housed separately in pairs, it wasn't clear to me which were the dominant ones in the pairs. During introductions I first was pretty sure that Chika was going to be the queen of the herd but suddenly it switched to Winnie and I'm pretty sure that Winnie has held onto that title.

Question for you all....now that they are in the cage, how long before it's okay to leave to run some errands? They are all "resting" right now and seem to be fine just hanging out where they are.

I really love the layout of your cage. I like the side kitchen area and looking my cage to see if I can get away with adding to side (if my other half doesn't kill me)

:) Thank you! It works rather well for me. Helps to keep "kitchen" debris in the kitchen. Tell that other half of yours that your girls *need* it! A new reno for the cage will keep things even more interesting for them (although your varied cage layouts do that already!).

Today is the start of day 3 since they've been put together. I've been weighing them daily and all three had been losing a bit each day. I've been chalking it up to stress. This morning my two original girls gained 17g but my newest two are still losing a little (3g, 7g). They are still antsy with one another....growling, rumblestrutting, spraying each other, a little bit of chasing, and running away when approached by another piggy. I'm guessing and hoping this is normal?

At what point should I start to see them settle down and live more peacefully with one another, to the point where they aren't afraid of each other?

Hi everyone! It's been a little over a week since I introduced my four girls. They seem to be adapting okay. No obvious bonding between any of them, though...hoping that is still to come. No fighting that I've noticed.

I've been weighing them daily and when I feed them I sit with them and watch to make sure that everyone is eating and isn't being bullied and kept from food. The day after I put them all together, their weights started fluctuating and we've been on this weight roller coaster since. They'll lose a bit one day, gain a little the next, lose, then gain.......... Here's where they stand now:

Chika (worried about her) began on 6/6 at 880g and today is at 807g (-73g total)
Tonka began on 6/6 at 694g and today is 673g (-21 g total)
Polly worried about her) began on 6/6 at 1,118g and today is 1,042g (-76g total)
Winnie began on 6/6 at 982g and today is 938g (-44g total)

Tonka and Winnie have been gaining for the past 3 days but Chika and Polly are still a bit off.....

Is this relatively normal? Should I be concerned? Anything I should do? Would appreciate any advice/suggestions! Thanks!!

So glad to hear that your introduction went well! Yams and Arizona are so adorable! I saw pictures in your other post about them. How are they doing?
