Want a Guinea Pig(s) Wanting a Texel

*grin* i saw the texel-showing off has begun, and couldn't resist dangling these pictures

I was in the same boat as you recently, @BNCavy91. I wanted a texel for a long time, and my teddy pig Curly was listed as a texel on Craigslist when I adopted her...finally I lucked out and found Cuddles being re-homed not too far from where I live, so I brought her home. She's the sweetest, calmest pig I have ever known. Never makes any noise, and sits perfectly still to let you pick her up every time, and she gets all snuggly and comfortable with anyone who holds her, whether it's us or someone she's never met.

Since we're starting the trend of showing off our texels, I present to you Cuddles! lol (in the third photo, she's on the left with her sister Curly on the right)

This is Buck and Twister, the brothers the lady had. =( They are SO pretty, but I've decided to wait, I'd really like a girl from a Rescue or Previous home. I thought I'd just show them off a lil!

I love the Texels too I have one named Sugar (my profile pic.) I hope you're able to find one near you soon, they are so sweet. I saw that you wanted to keep the fur long, the only advise I have for you is that they really don't matt up that easily except around their genitals, that's the only place I've had matt problems with Sugar so just be careful with that. Good luck!

@Mastershroom - it is interesting you mention on calm and quiet she is. Eddy Pig, I believe, is part texel and he is the quietest, calmest, guinea pig I have ever owned in my 20 years of guinea pig ownership.

A question for the Texel people: how hard is thier coat really to take care of? Just trim it up to keep it clean or active brushing? I have an extremely thick coated sheltie dog so I'm very familiar with bushing.

OMG Love her! I think I might dig up a pic of my piggy who we *think* is a texel....

Here is my fuzzball.....it was her nickname at first but then it stuck cause well, she's quite the ball of fuzz We aren't sure but we think she is part texel, she's quite young so I have no idea what this hair is going to do once she's older.

fuzzbutt! it's like more of the rex genes got its work there!

i don't brush my texel because i like her curls (they get abit straighter and looks fuzzy if you comb it regularly, i think?) and she doesn't have mats. i gently run my fingers through her fur daily to check.

@Varcoda I find myself switching between Fuzzbutt/ball. She's been a big poof since I did brush her(very gently) to get some mats out when she first arrived. I think I'm going to try to dampen her fur just a tad to see if it will curl up a bit. I'm going to go google rex guineas now cause I have no idea what they look like.

i like fuzzbutt better but she's your piggy! might as well give her a bath if she's dirty enough. i swear they're hard to dry though!

The one and only time I've seen a texel in person (a pure one anyway) was at a pet store in 2009. I was so close to buying it but knew that was wrong. I have yet to see one since. Which sucks as I too would love one. I REALLY would love to rescue a teddy or rex.

I really do like Fuzzbutt better too I might bathe her she is rather smelly already, I swear she's the messiest of my three. My other two are very tidy compared to Miss Fuzzbutt...

We've had 5 rex piggies in the rescue so far. Khemmy and Diablo (Rex front and merino back ends), Dr Who and his buddy who's name I've forgotten, and then Ginger who is here now.

And the first ever one was a texel, and I can't look at her pictures because I break down crying...as she was the first and we weren't planning to start a rescue so didn't set much up and once she was taken never heard from them...it's broke my heart. I can't look at texels or else I see her...and I miss her so much..she's the reason we started rescuing..as we rescued her and couldn't leave others in conditions like she was.

This is Crab Cake and Pichu who are a daughter and mom I got from a boy on Craigslist. They've had haircuts and just had a bath when this photo was taken. The mom's face is a lot darker than her body but you can't really tell from the photo. Crab Cake has baby fine hair and Pichu has really coarse fur.
