I have a PetSense store in my town and a locally owned pet store. Neither have hay racks. About 35 miles down the road there is a Pet Smart (or Petco, I don't remember). They don't have hay racks either. Any other suggestions where to look for one other than online?

Do you have any extra grids? You can make a hay rack by bending a grid and hanging it on the cage.

I thought about that. I got the wrong size grids, didn't realize it when I bought them because I was so excited about the price ($5 per box lol). So I can just use a grid from one of those I guess if I can't find a rack. Anyone bought any grids lately? Walmart doesn't have them in store, only online. I'm hoping to find some tomorrow or at least by Sunday.

I wouldn't use those grids, the concerds with them is that piggies getting there heads stuck.. if assume the same concerns would apply with using them as hay racks.

You can make a hay rack from pretty much anything. Wire basket, grids (correct size), cardboard boxes, coroplast, fabric.
If you choose to make one from wire basket, make sure the spacing is safe.

See this gallery for ideas.

Thanks for the images link. I'd prefer to use a wire hay rack if I can get one. I'll research the others though. @NormaS, how much were your grids at Kmart? I can't find them on their site.

Most of the hay racks you buy are pretty small and don't hold much hay. Take a look at the hay racks gallery for home made ideas. I prefer hay bags and they are super easy to sew.

If it's that much pain to buy one, it's quite possible to just make your own using cardboard.

Neat idea, I think might try this. How did you make holes in the plastic for the zip tie?

With a knife be very careful, the plastic will break, go slow and easy... and dont cut yourself.
