Hey is a 3x2 2 floor cage okay for 4 piggies? We have 2 on top and 2 on the bottom? I am making a cage with some squares I got for free off someone (10 squares free :) I was really happy) and will be ordering more now!

Is there a link to how to make one? I will be having one with 2 floors because we have 4 piggies

A 2x3 is not ok for 4 pigs. The smallest cage that would be big enough for 4 guinea pigs is a 2x5 and that is only if they are females. If they are males the smallest for 4 would be 2x6.

However, if you have 4 sows and they are in 2 seperate groups of 2 then 2 (2x3) would be fine as long as they are indeed seperate cages. However if you have 2 groups of boars then you would need at least 2 (2x4) cages for them as boars are more teritorial and need more space.

Second levels do not count for over all square footage, just keep that in mind when deciding on what cage to build for your pigs. Bigger is also better.

I will be having 2 on bottom and 2 on top and they won't meet so, really do I just have to make a cage big enough for 2 pigs as there will be 2 floors?

Are your pigs girls or boys?

Yep. Since they will be staying seperate, you are basically building two seperate cages, and stacking them. I dont know the genders of your pigs, but as stated above 2 males need a 2x4 and 2 females need a 2x3. Good luck

I wouldn't suggest having two on the top and two on the bottom because then they all won't be able to see each other. Whether they are girls or boys, a 3x2 is not enough for two piggies. Could you possible make a 2x5 or 2x6 with an upper loft? If they're girls, you could probably get away with a 2x5 but they will need lots of floor time to get the exercise that they need to stay healthy.

It's the bare min. for each but it depends on how well your pigs get along. Some will squabble in less than a 2 by 4 or 2 by 5. You'll need to clean them more and give more floor time too.

I have 4 boys, and 2 of them don't get on with the other 2 so it wouldn't be beneficial for them to see each other!

Okay, I am looking at getting another 20 squares to add on to make it bigger and for the cage on top.

I have 2 pairs of boars, as well. We had all 4 together for about 9 months, but had to split them into pairs a couple months ago due to fighting. My cage is built as you are suggesting doing-- I call it "the piggie high-rise". The bottom layer on mine is a 2x5 (houses a peruvian and a silkie) and the top layer is 2x4 (houses two skinnies). I'd have gone bigger on top, but ran out of grids. If your two pairs get along well (within their pairs, not with the other pair), a 2x4 space for each set is fine.

I just got the grids from Bed, Bath & Beyond. How do you make a top that can be opened for cleaning and play?
