Does anyone know of a way to get the quick ties off? (the lil plastic stickthrough things that you can use other than connectors)

I have seen release type cable ties at Home Depot, where you can reuse them over and over. They are pretty pricey compared to regular cable ties but may be worth it if you have to cut them on a regular basis.

well, if they were able to release, wouldnt that make them less sturdy?

No, it looked like you had to face east, throw salt over your shoulder and recite the first verse of the Canterbury Tales, in Old English, on a Tuesday afternoon to get them to open (meaning, it looked like it required some effort to actually get it to release)

I have no personal experience with them but I doubt it would make them less stable.

I found that if you really want them off with out cutting them you can push the little stopper thingy up feed it back wards. It takes a long time. I use my fingernails to push the thing up. It hurts though so now I just cut them or use safty pins. They work fine dor what I use them for.

they are really cheap if you buy them in bulk, what is it that they are holding together that needs to be removed every so often? for things like water bottles, you could use rubberbands, hair bands, to secure it, but i dont know what you are securing. so please share and i will give you my ideas!

try using a binder clip. That way they can't get out, and it's easy foryou to re-open it. Besides, if he wanted to, your hamster will chew through the zip tie!

Yes, a binder clip is what holds the door to my cage. I think it's better than having to get a new zip tie every time, and like ccm said, they will most likely chew through the tie anyhow.

The problem is its with a small grid cage. I can figure out how to binder clip the big grids fine, but not for the hamster.

You can use a smaller clip, they come in pretty tiny sizes.
