Are you sure it doesn't say, clean them if you see dirt?

Why do you clean your own ears??? Why are you asking about ear cleaning? Do you even have any cavies yet?

Superficial cleaning of the outer ear is all that is recommended for novices to avoid causing harm to the ear. The deeper cleaning is best left to those with experience, or better yet have it done at a vet visit. Ear cleaning is not something one can describe. You need to be shown how to safely do it by a Vet or Vet tech. I have a monthly grooming day where I clean ears, genitals, and nail trimming.

Ditto @spy9doc. I've had guinea pigs for years, and I've never done more than wipe the outer portion of the ears.
