Hi Everyone, I am new here but have owned piggies my whole life on and off. I am hoping to foster some piggies soon for a local rescue and am making a C&C cage like I did many yrs ago. I have been doing tons of research on bedding, I used to do fleece and mattress pad covers but the smell was bad after awhile and I hated washing them, so I am going to be trying out the wood pellets with a fleece liner on top. My biggest thing is what should I put my cage on? I want it off of the floor but the folding tables I used in the past are high and I am short and it made cleaning and playing with them difficult. I was thinking of building the table you see in the cage store but was wondering if that was strong enough to hold over 40 lbs of the pellets? I am thinking of making a real big one like a 2x6. What does everyone do to hold their cages and make playing with the pigs easy?. Thank you

I use pellets, and my stand is made of grids. Just use sturdy zip-ties on the stand wherever grids are joined together, and you'll be fine.

It helps to make a large cage more sturdy if you use closet shelving for the bottom, rather than grids.

So you don't use those annoying plastic connectors anywhere? Do you use the cubes as he base legs?

I do use them, but you don't have to as long as you zip everything tightly together.

I have a double decker cage that's held together entirely with zip ties. It's so sturdy that a couple of years ago, my husband was up on a ladder and lost his balance and landed on the top level of the cage. The side bent in a bit but it all held together with no damage. The side popped back up once he got up. Use the 8" long, 75 lb weight zip ties. They're really strong.

The top photo is one of my current cages. The ones below it are other cages I've had that had a grid stand. If you want it sturdier, you can add extra grids underneath. I spaced mine apart.
