My best friend's guinea pig, Puffy is making a hoot sounds. Is this normal or do we need to get him to a vet right away? I'll put a link down below for you to see and hear him. We don't know what to do and we're desperate. We know going to the vet costs a lot but we're willing to do as long as Puffy will be okay.

Thank you so much guys please help us determine this

My friend urgently went abroad and gave me her a guinea pig. I don't know now what should I do with it.
She gave me the cage, but it's rlly old:sick:
Now I'm choosing a new cage, which one is good?

I can't speak for the hooting, but none of those cages are a good size for a guinea pig!! Please consider building a C&C cage. You will spend less money on a 2x3CC than on the first hamster cage that is listed on that website. Search "C&C cage" on youtube so you can get an idea of what a good cage should look like and how to make one.

If she hoots only after eating, I'd just watch her carefully to make sure she's not developing any other symptoms. She may just have gotten something caught in her throat. But if she's hooting at other times, I'd see a good exotic vet (don't bother with a small animal vet -- they're trained in the care of dogs and cats, and know little or nothing about exotic pets), as that sound could be caused by a respiratory infection. Those can kill a guinea pig quickly.

Actually, forget youtube for the cages. See https://www.guineapigcages.com for instructions, and the Photo Gallery on this site for thousands of examples. Here's a link for the recommended cage sizes: https://www.guineapigcagesstore.com/about-candccages

Here's another for where to find materials: https://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/threads/107825-Where-to-find-C-amp-C-cage-materials
