Cage Linoleum lining in wood box for cage

I have seen time and time again, whether it is coroplast or linoleum, that people go up a few inches on the side of the box.

Why can't just the bottom be lined?

Because the pigs fling poop and hay out of the cage, and spray pee in each other's faces (and whatever is behind those faces -- the wall, your favorite chair, whatever).

But, you can line just the bottom and then build short walls out of something else. But believe me, you will want those walls....

Guinea pigs typically pee in corners if you are building a wooden cage and it is only lined on the bottom the pigs will pee on the walls. Your wood will becomes wet and start to smell. There is nothing to get rid of that smell once it is set into wood. Plus what Bpatters said, pigs fling poo when they run around their cage so you want walls.

How high do the walls need to be?

Mine are 2.5" with the front walls at 1.5" Should be good, right?

Well, I just painted my living room walls and rebuilt my guinea pig cage. The coroplast next to the wall is 12 inches high, and they're still hitting the wall when they're spraying pee. The walls in the open areas are 4 inches high, so I'm sure furniture (and people in the furniture) next to those walls are getting an occasional shower.
