Okay, I posted on freecycle about needing 9x9 cube grids. Lady emailed me back a few days about saying she has 3 sets of them! I said that is great are they 9x9? Oh yeah, they are 9x9 I checked.
So I drive about half an hour out to get them and they are 8x8. Seriously? I know they are free and all, but what can I do with them now? I have 50 of these darn things! I know I can make and awesome base for my cage now, but can I over lap them or something so that I can use them? What can I do??????!!! Please help!

I've heard of people overlapping them so I think that would work in a pinch. I would try to think of alternate uses for them. Do you need a ramp for an upper level? You could bend them and cover them with a non-slip pad or something similar. As you said, they can be used to construct an awesome base for the cage. Maybe you can make a fleece covered tunnel with them?

Overlap them and secure them with zipties. They'll work just fine.

You could always make your cage with them and then cover them tightly with thick chicken wire, just zip tie the chicken wire to the grids. It would looks good and work fine! Thats what I'd do! :cheerful:

Thanks, I guess we will try the chicken wire since I have SOO many! She will have to stay in her temporary cage for a little bit longer sadly :(
I am hoping to start construction on her cage at the end of October, or beginning of November.

My daughter's birthday is october 16th. I have to pay the deposit on her party venue, presents, cake, etc. She is in a pretty big cage right now since I revamped a dog cage (made a post about it!). I have to buy chicken wire, coroplast and fleece. I just can't pull it off right now because of the money and time I need to put into it.

Why do you need chickenwire anyway? 50 grids will make a huge cage, even doubled up.

You can connect some on the bottom, under the coroplast, and attached to the bottom of the sides to make the cage sturdier.

okay, GREAT News! After going through the WHOLE box, only 18 of them are 8x8!! The other 32 are 9x9!!!! I am so happy!!
So now I need to get some zip ties and coroplast and we are GOOD! So how big should I make this puppy??
I need to have a top, I have a dog and a 3 (almost 4) year old daughter.
I'll take a picture of the space I have and measurements, hold on a sec and I'll upload them.
Since i am making the base out of the cubes I guess I don't need to worry about a table.

Wow! How awesome is that! Use the 8x8s for the base and make a nice big cage out of the rest. =D

I don't know if you can see, but I have about 7x2 space to work with, hubby doesn't want it to be 7ft, so I was thinking 5x2 with an upstairs kitchen area?

Oh and you can see my collection of grids next to her cage. The ones IN the box are 8x8 and the ones out of the box are 9x9 :)

You lucky duck:eye-poppi, getting all those grids for free! I bought my 35 grids at a garage sale for $5 and now I'm always redesigning their cage. I think 5x2 with a kitchen would be great for one piggy.

So I made the 5x2 and put it on the floor and let her run around in it. I haven't seen her run that fast, ever! LOL!
She made laps around it about 30 times before laying down in the middle (back leg kicked out of course!) She is back in her tiny one now :( But as soon as I get coroplast, fleece and zip ties (I don't trust these clips that she gave me with it) we will be setting it up!
I think we will stick with a 5x2, we might go with a 6x2 if I can't get the kitchen to work upstairs.
