Re: Neutral forum?

I think the animal comes first - if a person has to drive miles out of their way for supplies or is only able to order from a website and can't afford it, then who is going to suffer - the animal. You are losing sight as to what is really important. My animals are the most important thing to me - I put their needs ahead of mine - within reason.

Re: Neutral forum?

Perhaps you have too many animals, if you can't afford to get their supplies.

Re: Neutral forum?

I can more than afford to buy supplies for my pets. I'm just not going to buy them in the manner some of you think I should, which would be from websites or driving hours to a feed store.

Re: Neutral forum?

So why do you argue when people tell you you're choosing to support mill breeders and such? It's true and you obviously don't want to stop it, so live with your decision and accept the consequences.

(You should also figure out the price per pound of buying in the store vs. buying online. I found hay and pellets were much cheaper online.)

I will do that right now just because you said so. As a matter of fact I think it is great to support shipping companies instead of putting my money elsewhere, but again since it say it's the thing to do I will do it - yeah right!

Re: Neutral forum?

Hell, I was just trying to save you some money, but you're obviously in a defensive mode where you can't think clearly. You go right ahead and pay too much for crappy food at your pet store, and keep supporting the overpopulation situation. Just stop whining when people point out what you're doing. That's all I'm asking.

Re: Neutral forum?

For some people 'the truth' hasn't hit them hard enough. I have reported more than my share of pet stores. Now I have a pig with CL that is from a pet store. Salana knows about the truth too- look at Einstein.

No place is 'hours' away from a feed store. Give me your zip- I will find one within a half hours driving distance. But it seems you don't want your location revealed.

Some people are happy. Ignorance is bliss.

I'm not in a defensive mode - you aren't asking - you are demanding that I do what you do and don't like the fact I won't. You just can't accept not everyone thinks like you. You aren't saving me money. I get discounts at the stores I shop at and I don't have to pay the crazy shipping costs.

Besides, you have no idea what I buy. For your info I buy Oxbow food/hay and Aspen/Carefresh bedding. Are you now going to tell me all that stuff is junk? You probably will since I buy from a pet store. That is where your narrow mindedness comes in. Everything is junk because it came from a pet store.

Re: Neutral forum?

Sara, debate works much better when you don't make unwarranted accusations about what another person thinks. Your entire previous post is irrational and absurd. I am not demanding anything. I simply suggested that you look into options and consider the costs, and that you accept the consequences of your actions without resorting to defensive, ridiculous accusations.

Re: Neutral forum?

You are making assumptions about me also. You accused me of buying junk products for my animals.

My postings aren't irrational - I think yours are attacking and narrow minded.

As I keep saying, each person has to do what works for them. I'm not trying to make you change your way and you shouldn't try to change mine. You know nothing about me or my life, yet you keep trying to belittle me into conforming to your way.

We wouldn't know. She tells us nothing of her background. Her profile contains nothing. My profile contains info about my pigs and their cages, which makes sense, since this is a forum dedicated to properly housing - guinea pigs!

I'm security conscious on the web, but none of my profile information is considered sensitive.

Sara - you say you're not defensive, but not even disclosing how many pigs you have seems that way. Lighten up already.

And I'd rather support shipping companies than pet mills.

Re: Neutral forum?

It's irrational to accuse me of attacking you. No post of mine has contained a single personal attack or demand. Many of yours have contained unwarranted assumptions about my state of mind and general personality. I suggest you step away from the computer and calm down.

I merely said you bought junk from the pet store because I have never seen a pet store that carried Oxbow.

Re: Neutral forum?

First of all, I am very calm.

Second, if you don't go into pet stores how would you know what type of foods they sell. Yes, one of the stores I shop at sells Oxbow food and Oxbow hay is the only type of hay I buy.

Also, since this is a guinea pig forum I don't know why my personal profile is so important to you.

I have 6 sows which I have mentioned on other threads. I started out with a female and a male, but the male died after being neutered and $200.

Re: Neutral forum?

You don't automatically buy something by walking into a store.

Re: Neutral forum?

This stupid debate is why I hesitated joining this forum. I had even send the Cavy Cages administrator an e-mail regarding my concerns. I had been coming to this site for quite a while and after much deliberation I decided to sign up.

You just can't seem to accept if someone thinks differently than you. And don't tell me I am making assumptions, because you have proved you can't.

You each say you do things this way or that and of course in your mind it's the right way which is fine with me. But, you way may not work for me and I'm not going to change just because it suits you.

Re: Neutral forum?

Then don't push it. If you know we will flare at it, why do you bring it up? You put yourself in the position to be debated with.

Re: Neutral forum?

You need to accept that not everyone does things the same way and it doesn't make them wrong.

Badgering a person isn't going to get them to do things your way.

Re: Neutral forum?

I go into Petsmart and Petco all the time. But I don't buy anything. Why do I go in there, you might ask. Well, because my 9 year old ahd been doing a study for about 8 months now. She visits about many different stores and documents the conditions of their animals. She talkes with the people who work in the department and points out problems. Some of them are receptive, some are not. Some of the ones that are not, we actually have to sneak into because they don't want us there.

So yes...I go into those stores all the time. But NEVER buy anything.

Re: Neutral forum?

Hmm.. it seems as if this nine year old child is not as ignorant about the problem as some. Very good parenting DaCourt!

Re: Neutral forum?

I accept that you "think" differently about the problem (i.e. you seem to think it isn't a problem). I'm now simply asking you to examine how much you pay at your pet store even with your discount, because if it's more than $1.12 a pound, you're better off ordering Oxbow. YOU are the one unable to accept OUR point of view, which is why you're arguing endlessly, why you got yourself into this argument, and why you're refusing to look at the numbers. But we're all well-acquainted with willfully ignorant people.
