Keeping Warm Guinea pig in my backyard. will he make it? and advice on catching

I've been eagerly watching this thread and am so happy that you finally caught him! Might I just add that Juniper is a cute and ironic name. lol I read that you gave him veggies and fruits, but is there anywhere near you where you can get hay and possibly pellets for the little fella?

    General treats

I wouldn't recommend it, you should trash them. The best treat is a little piece of fruit (Strawberry, apple, or banana sparingly because it can cause bloat) 1-2 times a week. Guinea pigs can't digest dairy products very well so I would think even one yogurt drop would upset their stomachs. Sorry!

Joy What made you decide to get your first guinea pig?

I got my first pig Eevee for Christmas two years ago, she was my very first guinea pig, and still alive and wheeking today! I have to say she was a lucky pig, because not usually, but sometimes pets and Christmas do not mix, and they get dumped at a shelter. This was not the case, and she grew...

General Help! Eating bedding, no hay!

I recently ran out of hay in the past couple days, and my Dad refuses to buy hay until tomorrow. Both of my pigs are eating their bedding which is kiln dried pine. I know if they continue they'll get an intestinal blockage, and that i can't feed them veggies 24/7. What am i supposed to do? I...

    What breed? weird looking pig

I don't know what breed, probably american shorthaired, but she is a really pretty roan. Haha, yeah how she's perked up like that, she does look like a prairie dog.

Exercise When is a Pig Fat?

I think swimming would be very stressful, and you should only give them baths if necessary 1-2 times a year, so putting them in the tub to exercise would dry their skin out. All i can say is big cage, and lots of floor time. 1 hour minimum. Try putting toys and hideys in, maybe they will start...

    Himalayan Guinea Pigs

I don't know what's near you, but here are some links. (broken link removed) (broken link removed) (broken link removed) (broken link removed) (broken link removed) I don't think the last two are himis, but does it really matter? According to you, does a small smudge on the nose decide...

General Ridiculous Question...Store food in cheeks?

Do guinea pigs store food in there cheeks to 'eat at a later time'? I really don't think they do, but i'm just checking since there aren't any topics about it. Some person on yahoo answers knows a lot about guinea pigs, but they say they store food in their cheeks. Like hamsters.

Frustrated Eating any bedding I put in their litter box.

I guess I could try to get hay in bulk for the litter box (We only get small bags), but who knows where we would put it. Once I used the litter box as a hay rack, and one of my pigs actually leaped up into it, and peed in it. I didn't know at first, but when I was cleaning everything it smelled...

Frustrated Eating any bedding I put in their litter box.

I decided to cut the litter box altogether. It gives them more room, and is just a little bit more work for me, which isn't a problem.

Frustrated Eating any bedding I put in their litter box.

Yesterday I changed my pigs' litter box and put in new carefresh. They went over to see it and started to eat the bedding! They just reached in and took a piece. They were eating about 3-4 pieces so I took it out. Today I went and bought aspen for their litter box; maybe the just liked to eat...

Fur Anyone else's pigs shedding like crazy?

My girl Millie sheds like a golden retriever every time I pet her. My other abby doesn't shed as much, and Millie has rosettes like an abby but has shorter fur. I'm starting to think she's a mix of something, but she sure does shed a lot, all year around!

Fur What coat type are my girls?

@pinky Ha ha! It does look like she is in a sleeping bag. A teddy abby mix sounds very cute. And thanks. :) @kathlaaron Aaw, thanks a lot! I think i'm just used to their coats. I never would of dreamed of people calling Millie pretty! Usually I'm drooling over other people's pigs.

Fur What coat type are my girls?

Alright, millie has mini rosettes, and her hair is just shorter. Odd. Also, is there a name for eevee's coloring/markings?

Fur What coat type are my girls?

Millie is a teddy? I thought she was an abby too since she is younger than eevee and just hasn't had time to grow out her fur. Millie's fur doesn't feel wooly or anything, it feels like an abby's. That's interesting. And i can see how it would look like a wooly texture from the angle, but...

Fur What coat type are my girls?

I've heard people talking about what kind of fur/coloring their guinea pigs are, and I've been wondering what kind of markings and coloring my sows have. I'm also starting to think that my youngest (Millie) is a roan or a dalmation. Here are some pigtures. Any information is greatly appreciated...
