    Fleece

Hi! So when we move and make Cappuccino a new cage, I am considering getting fleece as bedding, for a couple reasons. First of all, bedding gets stuck in his fur, which I pick out, which then gets on my clothes, which then gets everywhere. Also, it's a pain to clean. How exactly does fleece...

    Sounds Oh.Em.Gee. WHEEEEEEEK!!!!!!!!

Cappy (my pig) used to do this too. I agree with bpatters that you should feed her RIGHT before you go to bed. That's what I do now and it works wonders. My bedtime routine - shower, get ready for bed, go downstairs & get carrots/lettuce/etc, hay/pellets, sleep. Cuddles and floor time come...

    Adopting help me get ready

I would look at the Social Life page on cavyspirit.com. However, I want to make sure that you know that boars that have not gone through adolescence yet may fight - getting another boar right now may not be a good idea. You may want to consider extending the cage slightly. Make sure that in...

    Behavior Vibrating O_o

In my experience, guinea pigs will 'vibrate' when they are scared. I think that regular holding and petting should get them more used to you, and they will stop doing that. I'll let someone more experienced help you about floor time, I have only had hand-raised guinea pigs who haven't taken long...

    <sigh......>

I totally sympathize with you and I can imagine how hard it must be to have to deal with this situation. As of right now, be very watchful and look for any more signs of illness or unusual behavior. I'll let a more experienced piggy owner answer the other questions, but I would say to give her...

Adopting Convince my mom to get my girls a friend?

I know that you have the best interests at heart, but the vet bills aren't going to go away with continuous pleading. If your mother doesn't wish to invest in getting another guinea pig, she shouldn't have to. Honestly, your pigs are fine by themselves; the cage would be below minimum at 2x5...

Adopting Considering a friend for my piggie

Thanks, bpatters. Once we move, I'm going to look into rescues in the area. We'll see what happens. :)

Adopting Considering a friend for my piggie

I've read through the Social Life page about getting boars friends, and I've decided I want to put some serious thought into this. However, I want to make sure that nothing goes wrong, because I /really/ don't want two fighting boars. First of all, my guinea pig, Cappuccino, turned a year old...

    Crusty Eyes Is this normal?

Well, as for the cleaning fluid, I saw him grooming yesterday (and I'm sure he's been doing it today too) so I doubt that is the cause of it. The dusty bedding is a definite possibility; I am considering switching to fleece in the near future (when I build my C&C cage) so if that's it, that...

A little hesitant about posting this...sorry

While I think that the many users who have posted on this thread have had some good points, I have to agree with the key points here. First and foremost, it's the internet. While mistakes and misunderstandings happen (and those should be forgiven) you have to have a different kind of politeness...

    Cup o' Coffee for Cappuccino

It took me forever to get this picture of him, but it's amazing, especially because of his name. There are only pellets in the cup, though, hahaha. He did it by himself the first time, but he ran away before I could snap a pic. Such a cutie! The thing he is next to is my bed; he likes to run arou

Ahh, I see. I thought it was something like that, as I can't see the button. :) Thanks!

Bonding How can I get closer with my little pigs?

All guinea pigs run away when you try to pick them up; if you're picking them up from over their heads they're going to get scared. Eventually they'll get used to being handled after awhile. Also, you should try giving them fresh food while you hold them; then they'll look forward to it. :)

I am interested in making a blog, but I have no idea how to. :o Help?

    Joy Piggies celebrating Groundhog Day

Well, Cappuccino was born on groundhog day, so we already have our little celebration. Today he's getting some special treats and extra cuddles. He'll also be eating dinner with us. Last time he did that, it was on Thanksgiving. It's his first birthday, so we're all very excited. And I didn't...

    Very late intro for Lucky!!!

Ohmygoodness! <33 They are so cute! I, too, am investigating another piggie friend. Once I move to the new house (where I get the master bedroom, hehehe) I'll be making a C&C cage and hopefully getting a friend for Cappy. I'm so glad things went well for you! This gives me hope for the future. :)

    Crusty Eyes Is this normal?

No, he's always had this, and he's a year old. He has aspen bedding. It could very well be cleaning fluid, I'm not sure. I will definitely take him to the vet if anything gets worse. As for now, if I notice anything different about his behavior besides crusty eyes, he'll go straight to the vet...

    Crusty Eyes Is this normal?

Until I started reading through this website, I thought that having crusty eyes was normal for guinea pigs. Let me clarify a bit. It's pretty much the stuff that's in your eyes when you wake up in the morning (I call it 'sand in your eyes' but there are other names.) It's just around his eyes...

    General Looking...but..

I read through the thread and I hope everything goes well for you. Ditto on the petsmart stuff - my friend has had two guinea pigs die because of sickness. Elephant is such a cute name, btw! What color is she? It's so funny, she's so unlike my piggy when he was young. He was the calmest little...

    New Here!

'ello! So I have just stumbled upon this website and realized that I'm probably not the world's best guinea pig owner. I have one guinea pig named Cappuccino - he's one year old as of tomorrow. I am definitely going to try to get him a friend ASAP, but for now he just gets lots of snuggle time...
