Vegetables Suggestions on how to prevent urine sluge?

Update: I have cut Molly's food back to only lettuce and bell pepper and one week later the sludge has definately gotten less. It goes through the fleece now and does not sit on top as much anymore. Seems like cilantro was the culprit this time.

Conditions Black spots on each side of nose

Just noticed that Molly has dark spots on each side of her nose. She has a white face with pink nose so it is very noticable. The dark areas look exactly the same on each side. Any ideas?

Vegetables Suggestions on how to prevent urine sluge?

Bpatters, our water is mostly rainwater and is very soft, but that is a good thought. Is it really dangerous or will Molly be okay to always have sludge?

Vegetables Suggestions on how to prevent urine sluge?

I wonder if it is somewhat normal. But I am still worried about it forming stones in her bladder. I don't want to put a pig through that pain!

    Adopted for the summer...Bruno

Welcome to the forum! Bruno is a cute little guy, do you know how old he is? The best veggies to start with would be green or red leaf lettuce and green bell pepper and carrots. You can feed him the lettuce and green pepper twice per day (1 large lettuce leaf and a couple of slices of green...

Vegetables Suggestions on how to prevent urine sluge?

Molly still has problems with urine sludge. Some of it stays on the top of the fleece and does not always come off in the wash. It feesl powdery and not gritty to the touch. I have taken both girls off pellets, which I though was the problem. They are getting unlimed orchard grass hay and...

Fleece How to manage all that poop?

On the weekend I switched from a carefresh-kitchen-loft to a no-kitchen-all-fleece cage. Wow, I never realized just how much they poop - until now! I have a great colour fleece that hides the hay so that does not bother me, but the poop is piled up in all corners and gets kicked up all over...

Carefresh Litter box/kitchen bedding - what works best for you?

I have been using carefresh in a litter box/kitchen 1x2 loft. The poop can be smelled after just one day. I currently change it every 2 days but it is costing about $40/month for carefresh. I have not switched to fleece in the kitchen becuase my pigs do most of their business on the...

Upper Levels should i keep my upper level?

I've tried a 1x1, it is too small. You could move the loft to the side of the cage so that there is no space under it. I will try and find a picture for you. I had the same problem and modified my cage this way. It works well!

Adopting I'm thinking about adopting a 3rd guinea pig?

I talked to a rescue recently and they advised against adopting a 3rd if you already have two since they tend to buddy up and the 3rd will not be as accepted. They always suggest pairs, whether 2 or 4 or 6, etc. That being said, a baby may be a good idea because they don't tend to beat up on a...

Fleece Can I use micro fleece

Thanks Lissie. So just to double check... I found a queen bed microfleece sheet set that will make ALOT of stuff for my pigs. It is fairly thin so I just am not sure if it will be okay. Can anyone else chime in in case Lissie is not on?

Need sewing advice on a sewing machine please!

That sewing machine will work well for what you want to do. I have a smaller basic machine that works for 2 layers of fleece and a Uhaul pad. The Uhaul pads do come apart a bit when washed alot and will not last forever, but if you sew it between 2 layers of fleece it does not come apart as...
