I'm in need of ideas for a STURDY 2 grid high stand for a 2x5.

The cage itself will have 27 grids. No less. That is aprox 1.5 boxes of grids(4 cube)

I bought 3 boxes of 4 cube grids. 19 grids in each. I'd love to keep the stand I have now. But when I attempted to make it 2 levels I didn't have the 27 grids for my cage. I took out the back "wall" and upon adding the floor of the cage it didn't appear that the stand would hold up. AND I will still 2 grids short.

Doing my math...
3 boxes of 19 grids is 57 grids.

The cage itself needs 27 grids. That leaves me with 30 grids to use for the stand.
The CURRENT stand uses 17 grids. Which then leaves 13 grids to add onto the current stand.

Or using just 30 grids for a new stand design. I really love the current set up. Gives me room for my hay/kitty's hiding spot. And I have nice organized cubes for my fleece, pellets, and other cage supplies.

How about this? It should be sturdy enough. It would be better if you have more grids, but I think this should work.

Oh wow!
Thanks! The middle grid in each cube, is that just on the back cube or would it still be sturdy enough if I centered it?

How do you snap on the connectors to the middle of the grid?

Using zip ties. I don't use the connectors. Pain in the arse and looks too tacky for me. Plus my OCD kicks in and goes "OMG there's space between the grids!!!"

I was wondering about @lissie way of attaching the connector to the middle of the grid like she did in the photo in post #2

Edit:
The connector is not connected to all the grids. I had it connected to some of the grids and kind of zip tie the rest.

I found this connector a while ago, it would be useful for connecting the grids for 2 level stand.

You're welcome!
I think it might be more sturdy if you center it, but you probably can't store much on it, because all the stuff will fall on the back. Unless you make some shelves or drawers out of coroplast.

you're right
I may have enough spare coroplast to make drawers. might be a close one.

Okay, I went to count/double check that I have 30 grids. And apparently I am missing a few grids. I'm thinking those may have been the ones my husband broke when constructing a ramp. So I now only have 27 grids :/

BUT, I think I've come up with an idea. Do you think this stand would be sturdy? The blue numbers are how many grids being used. I had difficulty attempting 2 or 3D

That looks good. If it's not sturdy, you can always add wood support.

This is AWESOME for playing around with configurations! Would save me hours of time putting them together and taking them apart a million times! Do you have a computer program or am app you use for this? Would love to have access to a program like this to play with!
