The Caviary - Guinea Pig Cages

We adopted a third boar recently and expanded the original 4x2 grid cage with 1x2 grid deck on right, adding the 3x2 grid deck on left. The upper right deck is accessed by a ramp and the upper left deck is accessed by a catwalk made from bent grids locked into place by the connectors and reinforced

That is absolutely awesome! I wish we had the room to do something like that, but we’ve only got one piggy (so far), so I guess we’re good. :)

UPDATE: Re: cleaning, no. of cubes...

Yes, this cage was really an afwul pain to keep clean when I was using shavings! And the dust in the room was awful. Then I started lining the bottom of the cage with newspapers, covering that with a layer of shredded white paper (mostly junk mail -- no glossy paper or envelopes) and a sprinkle of CareFresh. This has cut my CareFresh consumption down to less than 1/4 of what it took to line the cage with CareFresh alone! So, rather than spending $80 a month on litter, now I spend less than $20. And the odor control is much better. I clean the cage every 5th or 6th day.

I just counted 66 grids in the configuration that you see there, including the "cavywalk", hay rack, ramp, etc. I took advantage of a sale at Target, and got all the grids at half price. Plus I found a few extras at the Goodwill store.
