So my family just moved to Texas from Ohio and there are these small bugs hovering around the grass. My neighbor called them Baby Kissing Bugs. I know that there are a lot of Texas residents here. Can you please tell me if it is still safe to have the piggies enjoy backyard time, or do I wait until these are gone? Thank you!!!

If you wait until they're gone, it'll be way too hot to put the pigs outside! But kissing bugs bite, so I wouldn't put the pigs out with them.

Thank you! That was the info I needed. I was told the bugs would move on soon. It has been quite breezy and mild in the Houston area. Hopefully it will keep up a bit longer!

Until tomorrow, I believe. After that, it's Katy bar the door!

What part of Houston are you in?

I'm in Clear Lake, so we're practically neighbors. I think there's someone on here from Seabrook, too.

Wow. We are! I love it here. It's so much nicer than Dayton. Our daughter is in the Clear Lake School District and it seems excellent! Let me know if you can suggest a good vet for piggies and doggies. Thanks!

The best exotic vets in town are at Gulf Coast Veterinary Specialists. But they don't take appointments from owners, just referrals from other vets, and they are beyond
expensive. However, if you've got a weekend emergency, they're the only game in town.

The best affordable vet I've found is Dr. Dan Jordan at Animal Avian Hospital of the Village. He's self-taught on exotics, but did a great job of educating himself about them. I really like him, and he sees a ton of exotic patients. He removed a bladder stone from one of my pigs, and she's came through it just fine.

The only downside is that both of them are downtown, but the only one any closer is in Alvin, and I haven't heard great things about that one.

Can't really recommend a good dog vet. We use Bay Glen Animal Hospital, but you'd be passing up several other vets to get there. I think they're expensive, and very insistent on over-treatment. So far our dog has been really healthy, but if she ever starts having problems, I may look around for another one.
