General Is 2 better than 1?

I just adopted a young boar about a week ago and I can't help but feel guilty knowing how much he would love a friend! However, I keep hearing awful stories about how 2 board often won't get along and will brutally fight. Is it worth the risk?

Also, is the care and daily maintenance doubled having 2 pigs instead of 1? I really do want what is best for Bernie but at the same time, I need to make sure I'm doing everything correctly!

Opinions/advice are GREATLY appreciated!

I agree with @thePIGAlchmist. Pigs are much happier with a friend(s) to be with. You can look at the Cavy Spirit site (Guinea Pig Education, Care, Rescue and Adoption at Cavy Spirit) under Social to see the benefits or having a pair.
