Neutering/Spaying Help!

yesterday one of my piggies got nuterd and everything looked nrmal down there... today i woke up and it was really swollen and his peepee area looks really inflamed/ he ate his hay but his bowl of pellets are untuched and he wont eat any of his fav treats ): im worryed that something went wronge.

Have you checked to see if there is an emergency vet clinic in your area? I know alot of towns have them and if you are really worried they might be able to help. At least they are usually staffed 24 hours a day so you might be able to talk to someone and see if you need to bring in your piggie tonight. Good Luck!

When my guinea pig was neutered, my vet said to call if there were any problems or concerns. There should be some sort of after hours numbers for your vet. It almost looks like the incision opened. Did the vet stitch or glue it? If you can't reach your vet, call around until you can find an after hours emergency vet.

Call the vet asap. I agree with pinky--if you can't get ahold of the vet that did the neuter, go to an emergency vet. This is an emergency situation.

UPDATE: so i took him to the vet and they gave me some pain meds. they also gave him fluids to make sour he'd be hydrated and an anti inflammatory injection.

I will, I was really worried D: they said the pain meds might make him a little tired, but I read online if he hurts then he might not eat.. so I'm hoping that he'll start eating a little bit know that he doesn't hurt as much.

It looked to me like internal bleeding. I had a male neutered a couple of months ago and he herniated right after the surgery and looked similar to the picture.

I am glad it doesn't appear that's what happened here.

I'm assuming that you have isolated him from any other piggies?

He will be tired and lethargic after the surgery and should be kept in a small-ish area so that he is less active and doesn't risk opening the incision. Also, I'm hoping that you have him on fleece? It's an absolute no-no to have him on any kind of wood pellets or shavings until his incision is healed.

I agree that the incision appears to have opened. What did the vet say about that?

yes hell be separate from my girls for another mouth. and i have him on towels at the moment.. I didn't have any extra fleece.

I told the vet what I thought it was and he toke him back to examine him.. what he said was it looks like swelling is pushing that area out? he said once the swelling has gone down that should go down as well. He wasn't vary cavy savy so on Monday ima call my vet, email the pictures to them and see what they think.

It's unusual to have so much swelling in the area of the penis. Has it gone down at all?

Is he on antibiotics? I always recommend it after a neuter, since pigs tend to drag their bottoms in the bedding.

Yeah he's on antibiotics, the same kind my Riley was on when she had a URI.

The swelling has gone down a little bit but not by much, Hes still not eating normal.. so I'm going to start hand feeding him.
