is it ok if you have one guinea pig or if you only have one guinea pig will it get depressed and lonely? i have looked on sites and it says that guinea pigs are social animals! :confused: plz help!!!!

Yes they are social creatures who benefit greatly from companionship.

Most piggies probably do very well and flourish with a companion, but some, like mine:), do better alone.

I think that a piggie who prefers to live alone is in the minority. I wouldn't consider keeping a pig singly unless several attempts were made to find a partner for him/her.

Yes, I would highly recommend getting a second companion for your piggie. I thought that my piggie would do fine as a solo piggie as I will provide him with lots of care, love, and attention but at the end of the day after reading this site and other sites as well, I realized that I was only doing what was the best thing to do for myself and not for him. So if you really wanted to benefit your piggie, then you should get him a friend. Of course, there are some piggies who prefer to live alone.

You should definitely get a same-sex buddy. Be sure to adopt and quarantine the pig in a seperate room for 3 weeks. Also be sure your cage is the right size for two pigs (males should have a bigger cage).
