I have no clue how to build a loft, and for whatever reason I can't wrap my head around peoples photos.

How on earth do you build a loft?!

zip tie it to your grids and put a coroplast base in it ;)
a 2x3 loft would be quite large and may get in the way. Maybe have a 1x2 on 1 side and a 2x2 on another side? Or possibly have a 1x2 section of your 2x3 overhanging?

@MrWhistles, we plan on doing it perpendicular to the 2x5 we have! My biggest conundrum is the ramp I think.

You mean with the entrance facing the front?
You can make it L-shaped and have the ramp coming out of the top of the L.

In-set or out-set ramp? And what's the best way to keep piggies safe on the ramp?

This is what I was thinking of. Except, it would be larger. What is pictured is similar to 1x2

Would a shape like that be big enough for 3 pigs?

It should be fine.
For the size you're shooting for,(using the image as a guide) the front(where the ramp is) will be 2 grids long, the back will be 3 grids long.

Personally, I'd like a loft that runs along the back of the cage and has two ramps for access. My 3 pigs are in a 3x4, and my perspective thought on this kind of loft would be either 1.2 or 2 by 4 grids.
I've also had the thought of a 1 grid wide loft running up the sides and along the back of my cage. It also would have 2 ramps.

A 2x3 overhanging loft. You can have the overhang on the bag inside of the side if you like.

I love the overhanging loft! Is the ramp just bend grids? *clueless*

Just to play devils advocate... if you are make the cage L shaped, it will be easier to build and maintain if you make it all one level. (Turning your 2x5 into a 2x5 plus 2x3 L shaped). Then you won't have to deal with supports and they will have more running room.

This is a similar idea in a double level.. It's a 2x5 with a 2x2 added to one end, L shape double decker the bottom level has drop down fronts for access:

This is sort of what you are thinking about doing in a smaller size, right?

@Traysea, the bottom but smaller is right!
We already have "piggie condos" where we have double stacked cages.
One grid stand, pig cage, one open grid, pig cage. So I was hoping to do a small loft like the bottom photo inbetween the two cages for my herd of 3.
