I'm getting ready to go out to eat with my folks. I'll post pics when I get back home. She doesn't have a name yet. I know it's lame, but so far I've been calling her Miss Piggy LOL! Oh, I love her so much already!

Also if you got her at a pet store I would check her genitalia to make sure she is a girl. Pet stores are notorious for miss sexing guinea pigs.

The guy at the pet store gave me a tutorial on guinea pig sexing LOL. I now know way more about it than I ever cared to. I can successfully pop out a piggy penis ha ha.

I would just want to check it myself. My pig Star I got at a pet store and for 5 years thought he was a she. Come to find out after it was confirmed that he had a bladder stone I found out she was a he.

I couldn't wait to post them. LOL

Hello, this forum is against purchasing small animals from pet stores. Considering you've read up on the use of fleece, I am very certain you've already read about this forum being against pet stores.

That all aside, welcome to the forum and look into adopting your new buddy a friend from a rescue because they do best in pairs or more.

@Sweet Piggy, if you'll post the name of the city you live closest to, we'll see if we can help you find a pig to rescue rather than buying one from a pet store.

Oh you could also put up your own ad. So people know you are looking for a guinea pig. Also if you go on Craigslist make sure their not a breeder.

Petfinder.com is another good place to look for adoptable guinea pigs.

I checked Petfinder, Ebay Classifieds and Craigslist before I went to the pet store. If you don't want me posting here since I bought her, I'm sure I can find another forum. Just let me know.

@Sweet Piggy, you're very welcome to post here. There are many members who purchased their first pigs from pet stores. We would just ask that you consider adoption for any subsequent pigs that you acquire. There are thousands of homeless pigs who need a good home, and we'll be happy to help you find one.

No your fine I got my first pig from a pet store to. I would just keep checking you may have to wait but it'll be worth it. I would be happy to help you if you tell us what area your in we'll conduct a search for you. Everyone here is always happy to help if you need it. You can even message me so you dont have to post it here. I know how some people are weary of placing those things out in the open.

I would have gotten a friend for her (they actually discounted if you got a second one- for a pet store, they really are good about making sure their animals are going to good homes and properly cared for), but all of the others were males. He asked me if I wanted to leave my name for him to call if he got a girl in, but I need to get a bigger cage before I do that anyway. The local animal control has my name if they get any surrenders, but I don't know how long they'll keep my information.

Can anyone help verify the gender, just to be certain she is a girl. If so, I have a name.
