My little girl scamp has been going through some medical problems for several months now.

She's only about a year old, and about 2 months ago, she had her first bout of blood in her urine. I rushed her to the emergecy vet immediately, where they did an ultrasound, and no stones were found. I took her to 4 different vets, where long story short, she had 2 xrays (where no stones and some, but not excessive calcium crystals were found), a urine culture, a urinalysis (which both came back showing no UTI signs), was put on antibiotics, was ultimately spayed because they thought the blood might be coming from her reproductive system.

After all this, my poor girl still has blood in her urine for about 2 days every week. She is on a low calcium diet, getting green leaf lettuce, 1 cherry tomato, 1 cucumber slice, a sliver of green pepper and a baby carrot a day, along with 1/8 cup of KMs Hayloft timothy pellets and unlimited timothy hay. I syringe her about 20-30ccs of water a day on top of what she already drinks. No vet could figure out what was wrong, and because she is active and eating, they do not know really what to do for her. All of the vets were strictly exotics specialists.

She squeaks in pain when trying to pee and poop during her "flare ups" so the vet prescribed her metacam, a painkiller and anti-inflamitory, to give to her when she has bad days. Has this EVER happened to anyone else? I've tried everything to help my little girl, but I still feel awful because I know she's in pain.

Any advice is appreciated, thanks.

Are all these vets exotic vets with cavy experience?

Are you sure the blood is from the urine and not the colon?

Yes, they all were exotics vets, and the one I ultimately settled on was very knowledgeable (Dr. Wilson at the Avian and Exotics center in NYC- highly recommend!). And I guess I'm not sure, how can I tell the difference? I know she only has blood when she goes to pee, it can be either pretty diluted and light pink to very bright red. But she never just drips blood without going to pee. It's also not constant, it'll last about a day or 2 every 7-8 days.

Is it this color when the urine is wet, or only after it's dried? The porphyrins in guinea pig urine will sometimes oxidize to a reddish/orangish color when it dries, and it's perfectly normal.

When it's wet. Unfortunately I've watched her pee bright red too many times :(
