I was planning on getting one of my boars (about 4.5 years) neutered to live with my girl as he doesn't get on with the other boars so lives alone and my girl has been alone since her friend died a long time ago.

After reading up about it I think my girl pig Pixie has ovarian cysts, she is roughly 5 years old.

This makes me wonder whether it is worth the risk of neutering Moo if Pixie may not be around for that long. I know a spay is a big deal esp at her age so would probably not go there, also there are no exotic specialists here (which makes me worry about the male neutering as well but they seem to think it will be fine).

I don't know if hormone injections are even available here, I will look into it.

Companionship is really important but there are a lot of risks..I don't know what to do!

I've had 5 year old pigs spayed with no problems. If she's in good condition, there's no reason she wouldn't come through the operation with no problems. I would see if you can find a good vet who has seen a lot of guinea pigs and make an appointment for her before deciding what to do with your male.
