My guinea pig has cataracts in his eye (covering the top portion of his eye), and I think he's getting it in his other eye (the size of a grain of sand). I think he'll be okay and I'm not worried. But, how do I prevent this and what is the cause of it? Thanks!

They can, but cataracts don't usually cover just part of the eye. There are other conditions that do, such as osseous choristoma. See https://www.guinealynx.info/eyes.html and see if something there looks more like what your pig has.
