I'm making a rat cage out of 1x1/2" 16 gauge wire mesh. It's going to be 30x30x28"H. I was intending on ordering durapans from Martins Cages, but found out after I made the cages that size that the pans from them are actually only about 28x28 as they're made to slide under wire floors in rabbit cages and such. I was planning on using coroplast instead but was worried the rats would chew through it and down into the carpet. I can either put the pan on the outside of the wire or I can sit it down in the wire like a guinea pig cage but use the edgers that are supposed to prevent chewing. Thoughts?

I would try the edgers.
