    Suddenly fighting?

Well, I took down the grids separating them and fed them and no one is making a peep today. Its just like it has always been- we just eat and stick to our own little houses. As far as traveling goes, I guess I can use a box for each of them, but they will be cardboard. Sigh. I am beginning to...

    Suddenly fighting?

I can't, everything is in a box. I guess I will have to separate all three of them tonight if they continue. I just don't know why they would all start doing this now. Besides, after a buddy bath they will still know who they all are. They have been together for weeks now.

    Suddenly fighting?

Okay, so last night I was awakened by my guinea pigs running around and making noise. They were doing that squeaking noise and then chattering. They would not be quiet, so I finally got up and checked them. They had everything they needed, but one hidey was flipped over. I righted it, and they...

Could this pose a potential helath issue?

I have found that old mattress pads with a flannel sheet over them work pretty well too, and wash up fine for re-use. And I agree- potty training is probably unlikely. Mine just seem to walk and poo without any regard whatsoever. It is their one feature that keeps my husband from being...

Could this pose a potential helath issue?

It is my understanding that it it worse for them to have bars on the floor of their cages, like a rabbit cage or some hamster cages. Looking at my guys' feet, they look like they are suited for a flat cage bottom.

    Sick Guinea Pig Help

How do you hand feed? I can't imagine how one would do this.

    Another "Cavy Allergy" thread-please advise

Hmmm. And is it okay for them to have orchard grass or Bluegrass all the time rather than timothy hay? I know alfalfa all the time is not good. And I am willing guess you may be right about hay being the problem, now that I think about it. I used to work at a miniature horse farm, and spent the...

Do your guinea pigs vocalise when...

Re: Survey: Do your guinea pigs vocalise when... Oh, yes. As soon I walk in to my living room every day, my oldest boar jumps onto his hidey box and begins to wheek loudly and persistently. Also, every time the fridge opens and I walk to the counter where their food is prepared, he does the...

    Another "Cavy Allergy" thread-please advise

I have not treated them for mites, but they do not appear to be itchy themselves at all. Also, I am thinking of switching their bedding to old sheets. I don't have any fleece, and I have a lot of old sheets that I don't need. However, if I am so allergic to their urine, will washing the sheets...

Thank you! It turns out, I have an Abyssinian, a Peruvian, and a Smooth Coat.

Also, 2 more quick and unrelated questions. 1. Are baby piggies born with hair and eyes open, or like mice (pink, blind and hairless)? 2. Is there somewhere I can look to see what kind of piggies I have? One has long hair and it goes every which way, another has short hair that kind of goes in...

    Another "Cavy Allergy" thread-please advise

I am having the some troubles being a cavy slave. I break out in a rash if I am within 10 feet of their cage, and I cannot hold them at all without getting the runny nose, sneezing, swollen eyes, and breathing trouble. I clean their cage every other day, and have gone to just newspaper as...

    Vegetables celery leaves

Mine won't eat celery stalk at all, but my mother-in-law loves celery, so I feed her the stalks and the piggies get the leaves.

Comment by 'Clay's Pooka' in media 'Shampoo holder repurposed to hay rack'

Wow, what a great idea! I will have to go get one- it will keep them from peeing in the hay and spreading it all over.

How Much? How much food do you give to your piggies?

Mine do not like tomatoes so much, or celery. They eat the other leafy greens and stuff that I give them, even orange peel. Is it okay to leave these two things out of their diet completely since they leave them in the bowl anyway?

Tell me about your piggy's emotions

Oh good. I was hoping that they were coming along; I really do want them to like me. I thought later that maybe he was trying to nuzzle me or something, but he was so fast I kind of got startled. I guess we just have to get used to each other, rather than just them getting used to me. What...

Tell me about your piggy's emotions

Well, I have been trying to handle them since I got them, and last night was interesting. I was holding Frank first, and he did some new things. First, he took food from my hand. I figured that he finally felt a little bit relaxed, but then he crawled under the blanket I had on my lap and...

New Pig, New Owner, Lots of questions

That is such a cute puppy! And I love the Shakespeare reference- I just went and saw that show this last season at the Shakespeare festival. Anyway, I went to Target today and bought my little panels for my C&C cage. The enameled ones were odd- they didn't have 9 squares per side, and the ones...

How do I post pictures? I am sure it is posted somewhere how to do it, but could you let me know? Thanks!

New Pig, New Owner, Lots of questions

Okay friends, I wanted to give you all an update. I traded the aquarium for a cage, but alas, it is still too small even though the ventilation problem is solved. Today, though, I received payment for a bill I had out (I bill insurance companies for massages). So, tomorrow I am going down and...
