Behavior Guinea pig ALWAYS wants laptime

I wish mine did. I've had them 3 months now and they still only have so much for me, food or not. They do come up to me in the cage now and no longer run from me every time I move. I feel progress is being made, but as for holding them and lap time? Nope. Remi bites me when I pick him up...

Exercise Do piggies like play tunnels

My boys LOVE their tunnel. I just bought them another to keep in their run out in the man cave, but the coke box sounds like a good idea!

    Play Joann's fleece

I've bought quite a bit of fleece off fabric.com. I also do rag quilts and buy a lot of flannel from them too. Sometimes they are cheaper, sometimes not, especially with Joann's coupons coming into play. I do feel like they have a better selection however and they ship really fast. 3 yards...

Cleaning How often do you spot clean your cage?

Once a day after work. I remove everything from the cage, vacuum the poo, put the piggies in the bathroom for floor time for an hour or so while I replace everything and cook dinner. Then they go out to the mancave to watch tv with my husband and me, either in our laps or in their second cage...

    Chat Any other pets?

Two dogs, 3 cats, a 36 gallon fish tank, and 2 boars. I'm debating getting ferrets and/or a rabbit (not to be housed with the piggies). If I do though, I'll have to get rid of a husband and a father. Sometimes, it's worth the consideration. :P (joking) Hoping to add some children to the...

Diet What Did Your Piggies Have For Breakfast Today?

A handful of spring mix, a baby carrot each, and some cut up bell pepper in addition to their pellets and hay. I only feed them pellets once a day. I repeat the veggies again at night before bed. :) Once or twice a week they get fruit, although they don't really seem to care for it and I end...

Hay What brand of hay do you buy?

I buy either Oxbow or Small Pet Select (yay for prime shipping!). I want to try KMS Hayloft, but the shipping cost to Florida is exorbitant. Both seem to be really good quality, although the small pet select was a little brown. My piggies get fed timothy the most, but occasionally I throw in...

    Fleece Help for fleece newbie

Ahh, yes, FionaMae - forgot to add about the pre-washing! Most of my fleece took at least three washes, a few up to 5, before it started wicking enough for me to use it. Just plop it in the washer on hot water settings, use plain no softener added detergent ( I use All free and clear)...

    Fleece Help for fleece newbie

I don't have any videos or pictures (yet) of my personal cage, but this is what I do and it's working extremely well. Joann's and Hobby Lobby had a sale on fleece recently so I stocked up on about 3 yards each of 4 different prints (I have a 2x5 cage and used the excess fleece to make pee pads...

Wood Pellets/Chips How to make cage cleaning easier on a petsitter

I was thinking removing the fleece would be the best plan to start with, but wasn't sure if the pigs would be okay on it for a week. I do have plenty of pee pads I can put under their hideys so they have somewhere soft to go. The pellets are cheap enough to buy another bag if I have too.

Wood Pellets/Chips How to make cage cleaning easier on a petsitter

That's actually not a bad thought. I alternate currently between 4 fleece patterns. I'm already going to remove their piggy patio for the week so he'll have easier access to them and the cage. Well, to me it wouldn't be hard to just remove the fleece, shake it out, and replace, but I don't...

Wood Pellets/Chips How to make cage cleaning easier on a petsitter

So my current cage setup is a 2x5 with wood pellets (horse ones from tractor supply) covered with fleece. I vacuum the poo once a day off the fleece and once a week I wash and replace the fleece and stir the pellets. I also use uncovered pellets in my kitchen area So far no smell at all and...

    Hello from Sunny Florida!

Remi enjoying his carrot! The boys together. Boo doesn't like my camera so I was happy I got him in this pic! :) Unfortunately Yoyo passed away the day I went to get him. :( He was 5 years old I later found out, not 2. I now have another cage built though which is working out great for...

Frustrated Is petsmart a good place to get Guinea pigs?

By that logic, any animal kept as a pet isn't a necessity. No, you don't have to have one. I don't have to have 2 dogs, 3 cats and a fish tank. My choice. My pets are family and I love all of them as if they were furry humans. I wanted to add to my family and I preferred to add a guinea pig...

Frustrated Is petsmart a good place to get Guinea pigs?

Unfortunately some people like me are in a position where there are no rescues in a feasible driving distance. The nearest was a 6 hour drive away. Kudos to all of you who can take the time and effort to do that, but between working full time, family, and other responsibilities I could not. I...
