Tootsie and Fluffer's Condo - Guinea Pig Cages

I decided to use my son's train table and put a thick shower curtain over the boards then I put the flannel blanket ontop. Pulled it tight so they can't get under it. And for the steps I used old carpet that we pulled out of our house. I know it wont last long with them peeing, but it's for the time
A couple things. Did you put anything under the flannel as a second absorption layer? Are you going to complete the sides of the cage so that they don't try to climb out from the second level? I could just see them getting curious and stepping out that corner to see if they can explore. Also the second level could use a railing in the front to keep them from toppling to the bottom of the cage. And that first step could be dangerous if they went off the side of it. The picture at this link shows two cages like yours side by side with the railing and completed sides, only a different method of getting from one floor to another.

Ok before anyone says anything I did put more grids up for the upper level so none of my girls will take a fall on accident.

I put one of those thick heavy duty shower curtains under the Flannel. Also I did put more grids up for the second level so they wont fall out and up the side stairs so they can't climb and toppel out. I guess I will have to update picture. :)

You need a couple of absorbent layers under the flannel (fleece would be better than flannel for the top layer). I use 3 layers of towels topped with one layer of fleece. Instead of towels, you could use mattress pads, puppy pads, or blankets (cotton, I think). Towels are washable, though, and absorb very well. Without an absorbent layer underneath the fleece, you will have a smelly, wet mess really quickly. Here's a link that's all about using fleece bedding: https://www.guineapigcages.com/forum/bedding/21568-fleece-project-study.html - hope this helps!
